Default Transferring Unavailable Domains?

OK, it seems like my old host is being a *****. I originally had two sites (on seperate accounts) hosted with them. Now that I moved one of them over to HG (toptenlisted.com), it seems like they're suspending my other account too . I haven't even told them I'm transferring yet, and I wasn't even sure about moving that particular account, but now I am.

Is there anyway I can have this other site transferred into an "addon domain" position w/o any complicated problems (like the ones I was having earlier)? It's a vbulletin powered forum site (just a forum, no blog, other pages, etc.). Its domain is www.conspiracy-forums.com, if to see what kind of problems they're giving me.

If the domain is suspended then you won't be able to backup the account so you would need to contact your old host and see if they will give you a backup and then you can have HG copy the files and add them as an addondomain on your account

Luckily, I already downloaded the backups, before I even moved hosts. Where would I put the files, or who would I give them to?

if you have the files & the DB backup, you can create an add-on domain & upload the files without even being in need of ur old host.

Great!!

- Go the domain registrar & change ur DNS to the one you got in the welcome email.
- Create an add-on domain from the Cpanel
- Upload your files to public_html/NewUsernameForTheAddonDomain folder.
- Create a new Database, Database user & ADD the user to the database from the mysql tab in the Cpanel.
- Modify your configuraton file (of the forum) to the new database username & password.
- Wait till the DNS works out. meanwhile you can test/check the site using your server's IP + ~NewUsernameForTheAddonDomain meaning http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~NewUsernameForTheAddonDomain/

Thats all

Thanks for the instructions, Pazeh.

I'm still a little stuck on step 3 though, how do I upload the files to my addon domain in the file manager when the backup created is in the GZ format?

Plus, I already have a vbDatabase backup too. So how would I put that on the mySQL section also? (I think it would replace step 4.)

Hey james;

As for step 3, you have a FULL BACKUP? (with emails/ db / files) or just a backup of the home (public_html) directory??

for the DB, you need to do what I mentioned in step 4 & then import your backup via PhpMyAdmin; now if the DB is larger than the allowed limit in PhpMyAdmin, you need to break up the backup to smaller parts so it works.

It's just the home directory backup, I never had a chance to do a "Full Backup".

its more than enough. just go to http://www.rarlab.com/ download the latest version of winrar, set it up... right click on the .gz file then "extract files to yourfilename", this will create a folder exactly in the same folder as the .gz file. browse to that folder and upload its content (or the content of Public_html folder in it - depending on how it did the backup) to the public_html folder of ur site.

On the other side, I know that file manager can extract .gz file, but last time I unzipped it didn't process the whole files, tho it did not pass the 30 sec limit. so I do prefer to unzip locally n then upload the content.

Sorry, I had college finals this week and have been really busy. They want me to pay like $75 to download their program (which I can't afford).

Is their anyway I could get it uploaded without "taking it apart" or "extracting the gz file", etc.?

Sure, get yourself ICEOWS, an excellent free "unpacker" that can unpack almost every type of compressed file (including gz).

Assuming you're on a PC, you could try right-clicking on the INF file and choosing "Install". That will install the INF. Then try installing the program.

Did you download the zip file, then extract it?

There was no "zip file" to download I went to the link and it took me to this page, and I clicked on the English download link, and it offered an exe file.

you can download a trial from the rarlab.

It will even work after the trial is over, but will pop up a small window reminding that your trial is over!!

OK, so when did you get the error? Did you download the .exe file (save to disk, not open it in browser), then, with no other programs open, execute it?

Yes, the error popped up right after the "file progress" box (I don't even think the file transaction was completed).

@Pazeh - The link wasn't working, my computer was locking up after clicking on it.

use right click > save target as if you are in IE or save link as if you use FF.

you can always go to rarlab.com & download from there too

That's what I did (With both IE & FF), and it didn't work.

(I tried again today, too, same lockup problems)

James,
have you tried to upload the file to the addon directory as a Gz file?

If so, then in file manager click on the name of the file and in your right menu you will see an option to unpack the file (not all cpanels can do that) but it is a good chance that yours could do it.

Any way, if yours doesn´t do that, you can ask suppor to unpack it for you.

Regards,

OK, if he has already uploaded the gz file, ask support to unrar it for him.

OK I'm just uploading both GZ now. I hope its in the right place, just in my public_html directory file.

(will support charge extra to unrar or anything, because as I've mentioned before I can't afford to pay for it)

I don't think support would charge you for this.

for your install errors, are you sure you are Admin on your home computer, if you are on limited account it may restrict you from installing a application.
