I'm seriously considering moving a small reseller account (a master account/domain and three other account/domains) from a competitor to HG.
You both use WHM/cpanel and otherwise seem to have similar setups. Assuming that I do set up a similarly sized reseller account with HG, please help me understand - 1) what will it cost to ask HG to move all 4 accounts for me? I understand only the master account move is free 2) can the entire reseller package be moved at once if I give HG my WHM uname/password on the other hosting company? or does it need to be moved one account at a time by my providing HG with my individual cpanel uname/passwords? 3) When a cpanel account moves over, if the transfer works, will that include its associated mysql databases and unames, or does all that have to be done separately database by database? 4) understanding that you don't guarantee the move service, what is HG's overall experience with moving accounts that have sites that run on open source content management systems like Wordpress or Drupal. Do they generally survive the move without further hacking or re-installation? Is there a historical probability of success? Thank you. |

First 20 accounts are free, so all yours would be free.
Going from cpanel host to cpanel host is pretty much flawless... cpanel packs up the accounts on the old host and unpacks them on the new... HG support looks after this. Never heard much for complaints on the forum about bad transfers between cpanel hosts... |

I have seen some cases where the old host was set up to prevent transfers through WHM. In those cases it is best to make a full backup of the account(s) and upload them to the new server for restore.

1. As it is a reseller all your accounts can be moved for free.
2. You will need to use the transfer form and provide username and password for each account you would like to move as we have no access to their server's as root to do this automatically. 3. Everything will be moved and restored including e-mails, mysql databases and so on. 4. We have plenty of people transferring their accounts to us and I've never heard anyone complaint about the move service. We usually do our best to help the customer. Hope that helps makes your decision! Regards |

Thank you for this thread
![]() I just started with HostGator today after hearing really good things about them in several of the web software forums that I visit. I did not purchase a reseller account, but I am going to host between 12 and 20 small websites here. Those accounts are all cpanel hosted at two different hosts. I understand from the advertising, that the move service is free to me also. Where is the "Transfer" form? I want minimal downtime of course, so how long after I change the nameservers at Godaddy, can I expect the transfer to be initiated and completed? Just trying to line all my ducks up so I know what to expect before I start the process. Thanks! |

You don't need to change your nameservers before the move. I highly suggest that you do the move, or let HG do it, verify that everything is working fine (via IP address) and only then you do the nameserver changes.
