Transferring domain from another host

Hey all,

I currently have a domain running on another webhost and want to move it to my HostGator account.

What is the best way to seemlessly transfer? I'd like to get all the code/databases moved before I initiate the changing of DNS, so that disruptions are minimal. I don't currently have any add-on domains, so I'm not sure how to set up the directory structure, etc.

Edit: And just to be clear, I'm expectecting to be able to do something like http://www.mydomain.com/myaddondomain/ to be able to test, then transition to http://www.myaddondomain.com when I'm ready to go "live" and adjust DNS records.

They'll do it for you, just contact sales beforehand to ask details. And to access it before switching, you'll use the IP they give you.
