Default Transfer of Site and/or Full cPanel Transfer?

I was reading on HostGator site that upon registration of a new shared HG account, one will be given 1 free Transfer and 1 full cPanel transfer from old host to Hostgator.

Sorry to ask but is this the same thing or I have to decide beforehand whether to go for a one free transfer or else for a full cPanel transfer of my site?

Apparently 'Full cPanel transfers include all domains, Addon Domains, Subdomains, and cPanel settings. This will also include your emails and email accounts'. Does this mean that if I currently have 2 domains webhosted with my current webhosting company, if I choose this full cPanel method to transfer my contents to HG, both domains will be transferred and not just my primary account? And which method you suggest that I use to transfer my site, if I made some modifications to some files, directly from the File Manager browser via the control panel of my current webhosting account?

Because if I'm understanding correctly, the best and most hassle-free method to transfer all my site and all the other contents, is to go for this Full cPanel Transfer rather than for a 'normal' transfer.

And finally, is this Full cPanel transfer offered also for free or there's a cost involved? If yes how much is this cost?

I am no official Hostgator person, but understanding is that you can ask for one free cPanel transfer within one month of your hosting with Hostgator. This is free, complete and you need not decide before you pay for the first time. But you will have to decide on your primary domain name.

You need to confirm all these with official support person. A better place would be online chat, for faster response. This is a peer support forum.

Greetings,

I'd like to elaborate on our free migration services which are offered when signing up for a new account so there is no further confusion. When signing up for a new account you'll actually have the option of both a free domain name transfer from your current registrar to us as well as a content transfer which would be the full cPanel transfer you've mentioned. I'll touch on these both, though will begin with the free domain name transfer.

When you purchase a new hosting account we do offer a free domain transfer at any time within the life of your account. When you complete this domain name transfer you'll actually also be extending your domain's registration out a year from the transfer date. Due to this if you have an existing domain name I typically recommend checking the expiration date of that, then waiting till a month prior to it's next renewal before completing that transfer. This allows you as little overlap as possible in regards to billing and what was paid previously in registration fees.

More information can be found in the following Support Knowledgebase Article:
http://support.hostgator.com/article...-name-transfer

There is also information for getting that process started at the above link.

Moving beyond the domain name transfer to content transfers, these would be included free as well. Depending on your needs and the plan you choose you'll get a free transfer with shared plans(Hatchling, Baby, Business) or up to 30 free transfers in the case of our reseller accounts. These migrations can be used at any time within the first 30 days of signing up for the account. They're also not limited to just cPanel migrations. While it does simplify the process greatly to just migrate and restore a full cPanel backup(Files, SQL, Emails, Settings), as long as we have access to the previous host migrations should not be a concern. I will note we can't guarantee these free migrations as it's not always possible due to environmental variables on other hosts servers which are outside our control, though more often then not this is not a concern.

If you're interested in the complete details regarding these free migrations the following Support Knowledgebase Article: http://support.hostgator.com/article...site-transfers

If you have any specific questions about any of this information, please feel free to join our LiveChat and we'll get those concerns addressed for you as quickly as possible!

Best Regards,

Thanks a lot for your replies guys.

I have one final question if you don't mind Josh:
from what you said, does it mean that if I currently have 2 domains hosted and obviously registered somewhere else, upon registration with HostGator, I can transfer my content for my primary domain within 30 days for free and then anytime during the lifetime of my HG account, I can conduct the domain transfer, also for free?

And is it possible to request a content transfer of my primary but say after 9 months, I transfer my 2nd domain to HG; where a 1yr registration from the transfer date is entitled?

thanks.

I can't seem to follow, but for what I have understood. You can have a free transfer as long as your subscription hasn't been ended yet. That is why you have to be aware of your hosting expiry date.
