Default Transfer domain

Hi, I just completed the steps to transfer my domain, changed the nameservers and unlocked my domain.
but i have a question, yahoo webhosting gave me an authorization code for my new provider.

This is the text:
"If you're ready to transfer your domain, make sure your domain is unlocked (for your security, locked domains cannot be transferred). Next, give your authorization code to your new provider, who will need it to verify the move."

Do you need that code? should i send you an email with the code?

Thanks

OK, probably not any of my business, but....

Given that you can host your site with HostGator without any need to transfer your domain name, why do you want to transfer the domain name to HostGator?

Why not just leave it where it is? Or if you really want to transfer it away from Yahoo, why not transfer it to some other domain registrar, such as GoDaddy.com.

Don't waste your money transferring it to hostgator. There are better and cheaper registrars out there such as enom, godaddy and moniker. There should be no need to transfer the domain, all you need to do is change the nameservers.

And I'll just add that, should you ever decide to transfer you hosting account to another provider, keeping your domain registration at another registrar will make the transition easier.

To add to this, using your host as a registrar is opening yourself up to abuse should you leave that hosting company and they wont release it to you (this is not a problem with hostgator itself but those companies that will register the domain in their name, not yours. Also, as I said, hostgator is expensive, they have to pay for the domain, pay reseller fees, and then make money where as a registrar has no reseller fees and many of them thrive on a large volume of transaction with little profit (walmart employs this technique in their stores).

I never even considered Hostgator for doman names before, didn't even notice they were available.....

Anyways, Godaddy is a good domain name host.

Some hosts offer free domain names with their systems, so there is some incentive to move domains to them. I had a client move some domains I purchased for them to their hosting so they could get it for free.

Personally, I'd rather pay $9.00 a year and keep it in my control.

Serra and others have explained the many excellent reasons for keeping domain registration and hosting separate in a lot of forum threads.

While we all hope these reasons have nothing to do with Host Gator specifically, it's just good practice generally. If something happens to your host firm (natural disaster, business problems, etc.), and your domain is registered elsewhere, you can be up again in almost no time. If your domain is registered there, it may take a lot longer.

All it takes is one good fight for your domain name that you bought to teach ya. I had purchased a domain for someone years ago at the host I had moved to only to not get a response from him once it was time to move.

Her site was down for about 6 weeks trying to get him to change nameservers and we finally got satisfaction from the company that he resold domains for. They were relunctant to help, but after proving to themselves by contacting him and seeing he didn't do as he said he would, they finally pushed it to an account so we could change the nameservers and ultimately transfered it away.

That was the last time we bought a domain we couldn't control!
