Thumbs up Transfer a big phpbb database?

Hello everyone, new customer here. I just got hostgator about a week ago, and well after trying to transfer a few domains over from my old hosting I notice this forum and didn't know hostgator will actually transfer your old hosting to it's new one.

My MAIN question is, when in fact I use the transfer form will they transfer EVERYTHING? even the database? I have a pretty big forum size "330mb" that's just the data around 20,000+ members and with around 600,000 posts so it's not small at all.

Well any information you guys can give me that will be great! I did see (within 30 days of signup) so I must act quick, just in case something goes wrong.

Thanks everyone!

Best to contact HG and ask. However, if your previous host uses cpanel, they will very likely transfer the lot.

before you request the transfer, i would recommend optimizing and repairing your database, using either your forum software if it does it or phpadmin on your current host. this will help and minimize the size of the database before you start.

and you'll need to close the forum down so that new posts won't get lost in the interium.

HG will transfer if they can, but make no promises about it. basically, you do indeed need to be on a cpanel host as striddy mentioned.

I would download a full backup from your old host and then request the transfer from HG. If it is successful then everything should transfer over including email accounts, databases, and files. Large sites can be a problem (or at least used to be when I was moving sites regularly.) Having a full backup is a good idea in case something goes wonky. I would also expect it to take a while to transfer as I suspect they would wait until an offpeak time to transfer it since transfers will drive up the server load considerably.
