I am using Interspire's Shopping cart on my website, and the store is not even the main point of the site. The shopping cart alone has over 25k inodes. I'm on the Business account, and I think you should do it like, 50k for hatchling, 250k for Baby, and like 300k for Business. I really will not be able to stay under 50k inodes, because i have alot of stuff on my site, like the shopping cart, a forum, a blog. I really hope it can be raised because i really cannot afford to use under 50k

If you are really needing that much then why not consider a solution that you can actually use to grow in? Shared environments have their limitations. They aren't made for full blown setups.

All of my accounts (since Feb 09) are set up with the catchall address disabled by default by HG. So the overstuffed email box should not be a problem.

I also recommend that customers set all mail to forward automatically.

It looks to me like the inodes limit due to the email problem is handled on accounts newer than mine.

I not sure about the other accounts, but my package is Business and
it has 250,000 limit for the inodes. So there should be no problem
running a good shopping cart with that limit. The 50K I think is for the
basic account below Business, otherwise there would be no point for
us Business-owners to be paiding so much more per month to Hostgator.

50,000 inodes is the limit from where HostGator stop backuping your site, whatever type of shared account you have...

The innode limit is the same, as regentronique noted, but the extra five bucks for a business account gets a private security cert, installation, dedicated IP to support cert, and a toll free telephone number; that's not much more than just the dedi IP would cost, and saves the annual cost of a certificate and HG installation. (Not to mention eliminating that annual hassle.)

Maybe the wording on the bottom of the first post needs toning down a bit, then it wouldn't spook people. It clearly says,

I've read the entire thread and there is a lot of misinformation as well as a lot of updated information as the thread progresses. The problem is that people doing a search on "INODES" on the forum are going to get to this thread and read a page or two at most and move on.

From what I've gathered, you currently can use up to 250,000 INODES on your account. If you use more than 50,000 you will be removed from the automatic backup system that is in place. This also includes backing up through cpanel. Instead, you'll need to use a secondary script/method to backup your site.

Apparently, you will not be suspended for using more than 50,000 INODES unless you have caused service interruption and/or heavy resource usage. The TOS states that:
Quote:
7b.) INODES
The use of more than 250,000 inodes on any shared account may potentially result in a warning first, and if no action is taken future suspension. Accounts found to be exceeding the 50,000 inode limit will automatically be removed from our backup system to avoid over-usage. Every file (a webpage, image file, email, etc) on your account uses up 1 inode.
Sites that slightly exceed our inode limits are unlikely to be suspended; however, accounts that constantly create and delete large numbers of files on a regular basis, have hundreds of thousands of files, or cause file system damage may be flagged for review and/or suspension. The primary cause of excessive inodes seems to be due to users leaving their catchall address enabled, but never checking their primary account mailbox. Over time, tens of thousands of messages (or more) build up, eventually pushing the account past our inode limit. To disable your default mailbox, login to cPanel and choose "Mail", then "Default Address", "Set Default Address", and then type in: :fail: No such user here.
You're fine up to 250,000 files (Most people shouldn't even come close to that) and even then, you may be fine if you're slightly over 250,000 as long as you take action to keep it around that mark and you're not an extremely resource intensive user. Remember, above 50,000 INODES (Files) you'll need to find a third party script/method to backup your sites, but your database will still be backed up by HG.

My recommendation is to close this thread with an explanation of the current TOS and link to it listed at the top of the first post.

Then you have 16 files or directories off the mail directory. Wouldn't worry about it.
