Yes, topsites are not allowed, but I do not know why! To me topsites look harmelss and shouldn't take too much resources.

If you ever run a Topsites site in your server then you will know that it does take much resources.

As some IT managers say, 'shouldn't' means somebody who doesn't know what s/he doesn't know.

Well that's lovely, however, rules are rules so no topsites are allowed!

Just my input from a dedicated server owner...

I run an adult toplist with around 28000 UNIQUE VISITORS per month + host over 200 adult websites on the same server and RAM is never over 26% usage and processor never over 0.17% usage, but that could probally depend on the topsite software that you use... comments on this would be interesting...

Also,... every person that joins my toplist, I host their banner obligatorily...

I too believe that there are many topsites out there and much of them are outdated like [Utopsites or Evotopsites].
The majority of them set Pageviews which many Topsite hosters use and this type/set uses large CPU resources+bandwidth and much more..
Intensively if Hostgator allows Topsite hosting but closes Pageviews set then Hostgator can get Much more business and a lot of members as their fear will close lol . I feel like: <---- To Hostgator....

Actually, there are probably a lot more prospective customers who don't want to share a server with a topsite site than prospective customers who do.

Oh great, i believe its shared hosting where every users share some such features with each others. The probable issue is How and Why Hostgator would disclose the fact that they have a topsite hosted in that type of hosting??
If you do it might hurt them, but i will want to ask you guys to think on the probable positive side of the business than just saying something unworthy and scrap, i do believe not anyone on this earth would do something just for the free right???everything that is done has its own particular purpose and in business you know what it looks for, then seems if you guys do allow topsite to be hosted by applying the above as i suggested then you can and will really experience a practical boost in the signups and lots of members and rest you know [i hope there is no need to explain].
You see i have observed in many place in-and-around the internet and in real life people speak practically on the positive side of Hostgator and a probable ratio of 90% of people suggest Hostgator for Hosting as its secure+reliable+great supports that you guys provide but due to this factor i hope its taking many topsite hosters/people who want to host topsite like me down and all are searching to host with many-many webhosts [I am too roaming around the internet and speaking with many Webhosts and many of them have practically redirected me to you [AKA] Hostgator].You see its not only just people but majority of webhosts too redirect people to Hostgator when they lack resources....

I hope you understand the message behind it and how important it is.....

This thread started out as a pretty simple question on whether topsites were allowed. That question is answered in the TOS where it says they are not allowed. I think HG will be able to survive as a company without changing that policy.
