Default Too Large to Backup??

[ ! ] WARNING: Your account is TOO LARGE (Over 4gb) for cPanel backups. Please contact support. [ ! ]

I get this email when I attempt to backup.

My site is just a forum. 170 members and growing. Does this mean I can never back up?!?

How much space does your account use? One thing that can cause this problem is having other backups in your account. If there are other backup files in your home folder you can download them to your local computer and delete the file from the server.

I have 12 other backups in the list. I didnt know that they could be deleted. I usually create a back up and download it. It always looked like the oldest backup was removed from the list.

My useage is as folows.

public_html 1618.50 Meg
tmp 5.86 Meg
mail 1.77 Meg

Yeah, 2.7 gigs in the / folder does sound like there are other backups in there. The backup is generally named to include the date. If you have downloaded the latest backup I would delete all of the backups and then empty the trash. If you don't delete the backup file before creating a full backup then that file is included with the new backup and is even bigger. Doesn't take long to exceed the cPanel 4 gig limit on backup files that way.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it. I deleted the old backups via FTP and they size was cut in half. Backup completed successfully!

Glad it worked. Someone else recently posted in the forum with the same error and support found that they had backup files stored in the home directory so it was fresh in my mind.
