Thunderbird Issue

I am having trouble connecting to download my email from Hostgator server. The error I get is this:
"Thunderbird can't connect securely to mail.mydomain.com because the site uses a security protocol which isn't enabled"

Can someone tell me the correct settings so I can check?

I have not used Thunderbird myself but check the properties of your email account and look for a setting that says "My server requires authentication" and make sure there is a tick mark next to that option

Disable secure connection where ever it is in the Thunderbird config.
