Neutral Thumbs Down so far...

So I just signed up to HG, and so far, I cannot FTP anything. It'll connect for a bit, and then timeout. I've been through many support tickets and nothings solved the problem yet, and it's been through 3 "tiers" of tech support here so far. The FTP just times out.. constantly, and I've tried everything to resolve it, and the support team keeps telling me it's working but it never is, or if it is only for a short period of time. I've heard good things about HG, so I am hoping they'll redem themselves.

This wouldn't have anything to do with our hosting.

I'll be happy to figure out what you're doing wrong. Could you pm me your ticket number? Also do I have permission to call you? When it comes to ftp mistakes can require a lot of trouble shooting so that would be the quickest way.

Just want to help you here..I'm maybe just telling you things you have already tried but at least I have done something!
  1. Make sure you are using passive mode when transfering
  2. It is normal after 15 minutes of inactivity that you are disconneted by the server(but not a time out)
  3. What are you using for FTP programs?
  4. Are you using a new domain name and propagation time is not completed?
  5. If you are transfering huge files with Dreamweaver for exemple, it will time out! You need to use an FTP software instead.
  6. If you are really in a hurry to upload files, Use the file manager in cPanel. It is only letting you upload one file at a time but at least you'll be making progress.
Good Luck!

Best regards,

Yes, hopefully your experience will improve. I have been with hostgator for over a year now, and they are great.

Or you can try 01ftp.com for web-based uplodaing. It works very well, can do up to 5 files at a time.

I just switched over to HG and I am trying to upload all my files (jpg pictures) over. I can ftp files for maybe 30 minutes to an hour, and then the connection gets dropped. I have a lot of files, so this is very painful. I have to keep logging back in. I am using ncftp from a linux server (command line, I ssh into that box).

I assume this is not normal. Any suggestions for diagnosis? I have successfully ftp'd from the old host in the past with no problems with disconnects. I am very suspicious of the "inactivity" timeout.

Thanks.

Congrats on reopening a one year old thread.

Contact support if you keep getting disconected, or use a different FTP client

I'd bet that the timeout problem occurs in the intermediate step you are using (ie, the ssh-to-linux box, and then ftp to HG).

Check all the linux settings--the queue may be piling up there. Better yet, try FTPing directly to HG.
