Default Thinking of upgrading plan then transfering in domains

I currently have the Hatchling Plan with 1 domain. Also, have another hosting company servicing 17 other domains I've written and maintain for others. Most of these 17 websites are simple static pages with half in WordPress. The other host is also the domain renewal company.

Am thinking of upgrading to your Baby Plan then transferring the 17 websites over to HG along with the renewal option to HG. Most are not due for renewal until 2012 and all are over 6 months old.
  1. Is there a transfer fee for the above scenario?
  2. I want to buy a new domain name now, how do I do this and upgrade the plan to Baby from Hatchling.
  3. How do I initiate the transfer of domains and renewal to HG for the other domains.
Thanks,

Patsy

Running eighteen websites, when half are WordPress sites, from a single cPanel account is not going to work as well as you think. It might be cheap but that's about it. You need to be on a reseller plan.

I have 21 wordpress sites each on their own top-level domains in my cPanel account here at HostGator - It totally resides on the site and traffic. To be honest not alll my sites get traffic and a few of them are simply holding pages - However some of them get a fair bit of traffic and the HostGator account handles it well.

Thank you kingtas and ixape - like ixape, most of my sites gets very little traffic as they are mainly used for email. My biggest concern is the transfer costs and procedures.

If shared works for you, great, but 10-20 busy WordPress sites can easily hit resource limits under a single cPanel account. A reseller account allows each site to have its own limits. That's all I'm saying.

Sounds like shared will be great for you

For transfer you can just tar up the directory for each indivdual site - Move it over and untar. If you have shell access her at HG you can use the WGET feature to download the file directly from the other server to the HG server - Rather than downloading it your PC and uploading again, this is much quicker. Then copy the DB over and edit the config file for the DB and done

Yes. If your sites become too busy and HG's script times out your dynamic sites for periods of time for resource usage, you can always upgrade your plan.
