Default Thinking of Switching to Host Gator, Have a few questions

g'day how are we all, i'm thinking of going with hostgator, but i have a couple of questions

i run a online game server and have a redirect with escapedturkey.net i want to ditch that (and i believe you get redirect with hostgator?) and get a domain with hostgator

But i dont actually want a website, i have a forum through freeforums at the moment but was wondering does hostgator offer forums? i want to get rid of freeforums because of the ads and crappy options,

cheers for you're help

So you're just looking to register a domain and use it as a redirect on HG?

Also, I'm not quite sure if HG allows people to buy domains who don't have HG service. Even if they do, HG has Simple Machine Forums and phpBB already set up in Fantastico for those who have hosting service. It's really simple for you to download and install any other forum scripts as well on your own and install them.

A forum is a type of website. You can have the forum here and do the redirect to you game server. The admins may need to set up the A record or you can do a redirect.

Depending on how much traffic and resources it takes you may need something more than shared hosting.

So the redirect only hosts files needed to play on your game server. So if the player joining your game server doesn't have a map the server does, the redirect hosts and uploads that map to the player? That's all it does?

Why not just get a website, create a directory and store those files there and then redirect? You could also use the same website to host your forum.

Customer service is really great if u have php error on your website other wise, its crap. I have a ticket open currently on which a Admin said " i am starting the transfer now" since server load avg was 15 16 18 and i am still waiting.

You can install a forum using either Fantastico or Quick Install in your cPanel.

is your forum with freeforums dot org? if yes. you can purchase advance hosting from there link. and they will be the one to transfer the database over here in HG.
