Hello:
First of all, sorry me if i make some grammar errors, english is not my native language. I am a newbie reseller user of Hostgator. The three first weeks all the things work very good and the support team help with all the problems that i had. ![]() I was very happy, but the last week has been terrible. The Tesla server IP has been blacklisted because of SPAM three times in a week. Why is this happening? When an IP is blacklisted, the admin of the list does not tell you why the IP is blacklisted? (I suppose that the HG team can know why their IPīs are being listed). In this case, I suppose that users that are responsible of the blacklisting should be warned, and if they repeat, should be suspended. Is this going to continue happening? One of my customers depends of e-mail for his work. When the server IP is blacklisted, all the e-mails that he send are returned. If this problem of blacklisting continues happening, i would have to move on another server. I feel sad because i think that HG is a great company, and they have a great support. But if they can solve the problem of blacklisting, i think many users will move to other hosts. |

you would be best explained why by searching the term blacklisting here. It has been discussed quite frequently lately and this is a problem with shared hosting anywhere. HG is working on a solution which you should find here also within the forums.

First of all, thanks for your answer. In the last 4 days I have been reading the posts of the forum that are related with the blacklisting issue. I know that HostGator is working on the mail Gateway and that they try to remove the servers from the blacklist as soon as they can. I can assume that the server IP is blacklisted once a month, but it have been blacklisted three times in less than a week!!. I have been on shared servers for 3 years, and i have never had this type of problems. |

It seems that you have been very unlucky with the frequency of the blacklisting, but I am sure HG will eventually get a better handle on things. You may want to read the posts pertaining to other methods of using email like google apps for those that just "have" to have dependable email.

i assume you do contact support with the details and an example of the blacklisted email whenever you find you've been blacklisted, right? when i was on shared, hg support was always very helpful and prompt in addressing blacklisting issues.
i came from a host who ignored my blacklist reports. completely. believe me, "working on it" is more than an acceptable anwer. "_

Hello:
First of all, again, many thanks for your answers. Today, the IP of the server has been blacklisted again. My client is fed up of this thing, so the only thing i can do is move to another hosting. I will write again to the HostGator Team, and ask them if they have any solution. If they can give me a solution (for example, moving me to another HG server that they know that is not being blacklisted, or, at least, not so frecuently), i will stay here. If they canīt give me a solution, i will have to move to other hosting. Too much people told me that HG was a good hosting and have a great support. I agree with them that the support team answers quicly and usually give good solutions, but in this case, i can not be happy with the service they are bringing to me. As i said in my other post, i can accept that the server is blacklisted once a month. But, in less than 10 days, it has been blacklisted four times, thatīs a lot. One of my clients depends of e-mail. The other clients use the e-mail everyday. They donīt depend of e-mail, by they use it, and obviosuly, two of them have call me complaining because in the last 10 days, e-mail has stopped working for four times. Quote:
I will ask now again the Host Gator People for a solution. When i receive an answer, i will write you to tell you what has been the result. It can be a happy costumer, or probably i will come here to tell you that i have been very unsatisfied with the Host Gator Service, that i donīt recommend it, and of course, that i will ask for my money back. Letīs see what happens. Again, many thanks to all of you for your answers, and sorry for the mistakes that i could have made writting on english. |

they were working on the mail thingy to deal with this, which is at least a creative attempt, although i gather it's not where they want it to be yet. when you have hosting that's inexpense (which is must remain to be competitive) and people can sign up pretty easily, you have spammers who join the crew. the only real solution i've found to blacklisting is a dedicated server where you have more control over who's there than on a shared setup. but you also get what you're paying for. any client who is expecting "mission critical email" with a $9.95 hosting plan or whatever, something's got to give. to keep the plans priced low, you have to have a lower level of entry and have many customers helping subsidize it. the lower the level of entry and the more customers helping pay for the server through shared, the more likely blacklisting. not to mention things like email limits, types of sites allowed, and other things clients also frequently complain about help minimize the blacklisting issues...it's always a balancing act. if you find a reasonable solution that doesn't require a dedicated, i'm sure you can write yourself a book and tons of webhosts will make you rich. good luck!

Perhaps I'm over simplifying the problem but wouldn't getting a dedicated IP for the site resolve the issue?

No, the mailserver will still use the shared IP rather than the dedicated IP.
