Good AM All

As of this morning I am able to email my SBCglobal account, let's hope this doesn't happen again (wishful thinking).

Thank You HG team.

Well, after 5 days of this with my dedi, I have 3 of my biggest accounts ready to go else where, looks like I will have to start looking elsewhere also for another dedi, this is really nuts.

And you shouldn't be delisting anything, for any server, without contacting us. We have to investigate and as Nathon said earlier, requesting removal yourself only leads to the problem happening again.

Did you put in a ticket? Since you said this has been going on for 5 days now, I'm more than positive I've actually answered any ticket you've put in if one was put in.

This is why I left it up to support to delist my IP. They have a a better grasp and clout than us lowly dedi servants.

OK well I did reply to that ticket yesterday but I have not been emailed by AT&T yet with a notification that it was removed. Of course, this doesn't mean it's not removed.

So far the one I sent didn't bounce, but another client just sent one 5 min. ago to a sbcglobal and he forwarded me the same usual bounce?

I went to this form, filled it out and they removed the block from my server within a few hours.
I did it on 2 different dedicated servers and it worked.

UPDATE

Still no word from AT&T on this however, some research presents me with what I suspected all along: they changed their content filtering over the weekend. I don't have any real details to support this but given the diversity of those putting in support tickets, I knew it couldn't have been anything directly against us.

The fact that reseller, shared, and dedicated servers were all being blocked pretty much at random tells me they changed something on their end although, I don't know what exactly. I've gotten reports that some other web hosts are also affected and I'm trying to dig up information from that.

On another note, I've gotten about 50 removals approved today so AT&T is working just super slowly (I just got 4 more in my inbox). I'm working on this, don't worry. AT&T's making me look lazy by taking so long!

I will say that my ticket (KGV-2726521) that was put in on 6/14/2008 is still blacklisted as of 1925 on 6/19/2008.

Richard, we have no doubts that you are working as hard as you can. My questions is being this is involving a signifcantly large number of IPs in your company why has this not been escalated with AT&T. HostGator isn't a small company and you even have a larger company behind you that should be helping out in this area (in my opinion). If you or one other tech is the only ones trying to resolve this issue then that is a problem. Call in the troops! You all should be working on this 24 hours a day (and you might be...but I don't get that impression).

Like others in this forum, I have clients that are asking questions that I can't answer. So far my only saving grace is that there is no assurance that this will not happen to another host and the assumption that this was a "mistake" by AT&T (however if you call AT&T they blow you off). I have been with two other companies in the past that had similar issues that provoked me to move. My conclusion is this happens to everyone; however, the difference is how long it takes a company to resolve their issues.

All I ask is that you don't be like other hosts and realize you have a larger problem than you do until you have lost a significant number of your accounts.

Have a good day.

I'm with another dedicated hosting provider - it's on another 'planet'. Anyway figured I'd chime in here; I was doing a google search on the att blocks and found this forum. One of my servers was blocked last weekend out of nowhere - I know no spam goes out of that box. Then today another box that I only host my own website on and no other websites was also blocked - so no spam from there either. It looks like their feeding in blocks of ip's to block and are looking at getting admins to unblock them; what a poor way to filter spam but I guess if att customers don't complain too much then it's okay for att to do.

Btw you guys have a great hosting service here; my provider had a recent outage at their datacenter and host gator was one of the providers I was looking to switch to in the future.

It's just the "sbcglobal.net" that we are having problem with, Right ? I have no problem with att.net & southbell.net. Could this have something to do with yahoo network also ? Is sbcglobal.net mail service is providing by Yahoo ? When I try to send email from sbcglobal.net account, I got bounced back my MAILER-DAEMON@yahoo.com

GatorRichard

I am finding some of your mail servers are sending mail to SBC and some are not so let me ask a dumb question:

Is there a way to only use the mail servers that have been cleared to send mail?

I would rather have my customers sending mail to SBC/ATT/etc.. be slow rather than bounce.

Thanks

As it all happened on friday the 13, maybe somone at att is starting or works for a compeating company? Being they don't wanna help resolve things quicker. Impossiable, no, it happens, just like dirty cops, there is always a bad apple in the bunch.

Cool Re: AT&T Mail Blocks

All the speculation as to what the problem is doesn't seem to be helping. The solution is to contact AT&T and have them unblock us so submitting a ticket and waiting patiently seems to be the best bet. Worrying is just

I am curious to "David G's" post however:
"I am finding some of your mail servers are sending mail to SBC and some are not so let me ask a dumb question:

This seems logical, would it work?

Can someone put this in layman's terms so that I can turnaround and explain it to everyone else?

Support told me that this was only an outgoing mail problem, but after reading this it seems some people are complaining about incoming mail.

Thanks,

There's no way to escalate this if AT&T and its subsidiaries don't recognize there is a problem. I've gotten at least a dozen reports where AT&T/SBC/Bellsouth have stated in so many words "there is no block in place".

Quote:

Actually one tech helps prevent any information from getting lost, confused, miscommunicated and so on. Our customers would rather have proper and correct information than 10 people all working on the same issue, getting in each other's way and causing more issues than not. Not to mention we can't work on it 24 hours a day, AT&T's department is only open 9-5. That'd be wasting another 16 hours of work per day if they're not open.

Yes, this happens to every company, no matter how large or small. If a company tells you they've never been blacklisted, they're lying through their teeth. I've seene very major ISP, email provider, and hosting company in the business get blacklisted. In a bit of irony, I've gotten emails in the past about AT&T blocking Bellsouth IPs for spamming and they're the same company.

No, it's every company that uses AT&T for email: AT&T, Bellsouth.net, SBC Globa, Pacbell, Prodigy.net.

It's a good idea but it's also impossible to know which IPs are blacklisted at the time of an SMTP transaction. AT&T provides no public query system so we can't query that and then switch to another IP if the current one is listed. That's actually the very reason we're having to rely on customers to send us bounces, we have zero way of checking these.

i have a question: are you getting cleared in roughly the same order as you're sending in the requests?

i was notified that you requested my dedi be delisted on monday and am still getting bounces. i certainly don't have a problem with waiting because, well, it takes what it takes, but am wondering at what point i should update my ticket and/or try to follow up? frankly, i have very little trust for the efficiency of their system at the moment...
