Default AT&T Mail Blocks

We are aware that AT&T is blocking mail from some of our gateway servers at this time. Our staff from the ISP Blacklists department is working diligently to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. If we have further updates on the issue, we will be posting them in this thread.

We appreciate your patience.

The pop3 and smtp mail servers for most of your domains will be mail.domain.com unless you have these records pointed elsewhere. You may try port 26 for smtp if you have issues with using port 25.

Not sure if this will help but it looks like @snet.net is getting through but @sbcglobal.net mail is still blocked as of this AM.

Well, if they do it the same as SBC/ATT Yahoo DSL, they block port 25 by default and you have to ask support specifically to open it for you. For my DSL, a search on their support site yeilded a form to request opening port 25.

For future referece, this is an information ticket, please do not put support requests here. I will be pruning out support requests tomorrow.

We know there's an issue, you're not the only one with the issue and we're working on it. I understand that getting this solved is important for everyone that puts in a request however, please understand we're only working as fast as AT&T allows us to.

Some new information
This weekend, AT&T instituted new delisting rules allowing 2 delist requests per IP address. Since I have access to two IPs per day, that's only 4 delists. I'm having to use a rotating list of proxies just to complete all of these so this is causing extra processing time, quite a bit actually.

I don't have any information on why this is happening just yet, I'm still waiting on word from AT&T but I have my ideas on what they did based on the IPs I've gathered so far. I won't release details just yet because I'm not going to put out a theory that turns out to get debunked and cause more issues that way. When I get more information, I will be posting it here.

Keep support requests to the support ticket system, this is for informational purposes only.

Hey I got unblocked,

I loaded Cpanel
found my shared IP
entered it on this page

put my shared IP, my real name, my att.net email and real phone number but put down hostgator as company?

I then checked every box at the bottom of the page.

Went to bed around 8pm, just got up and I got mail now.

I dunno if it was me or not, but they sent a return message

Re: RBL Removed 74.53.225.210

Basically it said it may take 24-48hrs and to inform the hosting provider of this action if your not an admin.

Please do not EVER do this. Those boxes that you just checked actually mean something. If the problem is not actually resolved on that server and it gets listed again guess what happens, it takes even longer to delist. If it happens continually an RBL could permanently block that IP.

I am removing the URL from your post so no one else attempts this(eventhough the URL is easy to find) but leaving the rest of it so others will know NOT to do this.

This is why we only have certain people handle RBL removals, so no duplicates are done and the issue is properly resolved. Again, you should never be doing this ever or you risk doing more damage!

I just figured out that I haven't been getting very much email lately, probably due to this, that is, ATT Yahoo DSL blocking all my email forwarder from my hostgator addresses.

My workaround was to create a new POP account at hostgator, and then have all my forwarders direct mail there. I can then fetch the mail from my pop account at hostgator using Thunderbird, which I always use anyway instead of logging onto Yahoo.

Hope this helps!

So is it okay to change the port? I don't want to mess any settings up for Host Gator. If I change the port of my pop3 email account to 465 will that mean I can send e-mail to sbcgloabl.net customers?

Thank You!

Changing the port will only correct a problem if your ISP blocks port 25 to outside servers. It will not correct the problem with the IP of the server being blocked. If you cannot send email through your domain using port 25 then you can try using port 26 instead (or 465 if you set it to use SSL.) Changing the port will not cause any problems for HG but if the IP is blocked then the only solution will be waiting for it to be unblocked.

If you haven't submitted a support ticket you should so that the techs can check to see if the IP you use to send has been reported. ATT has been pretty slow to clear the blocks but many have been removed.

UPDATE

As GvilleRick mentioned, AT&T is being very slow regarding these removals. I have some updates from Monday still pending, two days later. Normal resolution time is 2-4 hours however, this is not a normal situation so please be patient.

I'm still waiting on word from AT&T why this even happened in the first place.

Thanks for the update, Richard. Pretty bad when AOL responds quicker. If you ever find out what happened I would love to know.

I am currently able to send emails to sbcglobal.net now and yesterday I was unable to, so could that mean I am okay now?

If you are able to send now then your IP has been unblocked so you should be fine.

Any update on why this happened? I have customers that want answers. Somebody was misbehaving I assume.

Thanks

I'm not convinced that anyone was misbehaving. If it had been one server, sure, someone tried spamming. But with the number of IPs that were blocked and the fact that even dedicated servers were affected it sounds to me like ATT's system messed up and blocked a whole block of IP's. I checked my dedicated server pretty closely and we only sent 200 or so messages to the bellsouth addresses all month. At first I thought maybe our mass mailing had caused a problem on our server but I saw a single message before we sent out the mailing that was blocked as well.

I don't really expect to hear anything. The big ISPs rarely tell specifically why they do anything.
