Default Symlinks in reseller accounts ... is this cheating/violating ToS ?

Hi,

I'd like to run this idea with the hostgator crowd. It's plain and simple naivety, my apologies if this post isn't appreciated. I searched this forum for threads dealing with this question, but didn't find an answer.

My shared account on my host is under stress because the inode count is no longer viable under their ToS. Because of bad experiences I'm moving to HG.

The amount of inodes is also too large for a shared account on HG, so I would like to ask if this can be distributed among accounts in a reseller package. My idea is to create different accounts with their own cpanel, but internally symlink them to one account. All the bandwidth & cpu is restricted in this one account, but the inodes are distributed and (theoretically) no longer violate the ToS. This gives me some breathing room before moving on to a dedicated server. The site is currently not financially viable for a dedicated plan, but I have plans in this direction.

Is this symlink approach considered cheating/backstabbing ? Can I create symlinks with a reseller plan ?

best wishes,
Kurt

Forgot a detail: the inode count can't be decreased, it's not a cache or mail files issue.

how many inodes are we talking about??

As far as I do remember, if you pass the inodes limit here & if your inodes are not caused of cache / temp files, then you don't have problem with suspension / deactivation BUT your account will not be backuped by HG.

That is not possible in a shared server.
One account can't have permissions to access files in another account.

It sounds like your site may have outgrown shared hosting and a reseller account is not likely to help much in this situation. If a site is using too many resources with one host it is likely to do the same here or anywhere. You should be looking at moving to a dedicated server.

Is the Aluminium option the smallest available?
Could manage with much less space so don't really want to pay $24.95 unless I have to.

Also can we pay subscriptions by paypal

Thanks

You would need to contact support for a definitive answer but a reseller account is also on a shared server. I do not believe you can do what you mentioned which is also what QuietFinn was saying. You would need to contact support, however, for a definite answer.

Thanks all,

I overlooked the permissions QuietFinn mentions, I was not considering it as a shared service - my mistake.
