Switching Host Providers

I would like to switch to 'Gator from Gate dot Com. Gate is a great company and I've not had any problems. However, Host Gator offers so much more and the ping times are almost half with Host Gator as compared to my current host which is on the west coast. My site is located in coastal Alabama.

I have been with Gate less than two months and there's a 60 day domain lock that should expire on or about February 15, 2006. Do I need to wait until the the lock is removed before I can sign up and switch my web to the ' Gator? Thanks in advance!

The lock prevents you from transfering the domain, but you don't need to do that, you just have to change the nameservers for the domain.

You go to the registrar where the domain is registered and do it there, here are instructions for quite many of them: http://www.hostgator.com/dns.shtml
