I don't know if this suggestion has been made before but how about a real-time "Network Status" page? These forums don't get updated often enough and perhaps something like this would keep reduce our inquiries to support.
Being a reseller on a server that seems to have quite a few problems, I know that the first time I hear about an issue I'm quick to inquire and follow-up frequently. I'm just one person so I can imagine that support may feel inundated when outages occur.. Just my 2 cents.. |

You have that available in cPanel on the left column.
Select "Servic Status". Naturally, if the network is down you won't be able to get to cPanel. Jeff |

Right but there are a number of times when a service shows up as red and the tech support people say it's ok.
Then there are the times like we are having now when horde webmail is having authentication issues. I didn't know about it until some clients said that my webmail script wasn't working. Turns out the script is fine.. It would be nice to just go there and see any hardware or network issue listed similar to what someone like Earthlink does. |

Justin,
Thanks much for the response. I just think ( and I realize I'm just one person ) that there have been quite a few posts recently about support and different problems and this might help take some of the stress off them and at the same time help the customer.. Good Luck, Tony |

I would agree with that idea. Personally, when our Chrysler went down, I couldn't even access the cPanel half the time, and that didn't tell me much other than what I already knew, it was not working properly.
I think if one of the email support people or something would dedicate their efforts to keeping an ongoing thread of any known issues, then people could check there before even calling/emailing/chatting w/ support, and could keep checking that for the latest update, of course without regular and *informative* updates, it's useless, but if there is a serious known issue, someone could commit to updating it every 15 minutes, or at least every 30 minutes, with the latest, and people could monitor that, and only contact you if they had questions not addresses by those updates. Otherwise, if all was well, you could give some status indicators for basic stuff, and notes about any minor issues, like what the planned maintenance thread was supposed to be at one point. Hopefully I won't have any more problems but if I did, I would check that board/status area for sure before I even called, but that's just me. When Chrysler went down, the first thing I did was check the boards here, so...Karsten |

We use www.hostgator.com/s/
It's accurate but every now and then it shows a red light while the service is on. Just wait 5 minutes and it won't do the same thing on the next update. If all lights are green but server load is 100+ or doesn't display (means load is 100's) THen your box may seem down however it's up and lagging like crazy and we aren't able to access it, and have to get a reboot before we can go in and trace what script / who is the problem.
