Default support for basic auth?

Hello,
I'm looking for a hosting provider for a site where I'm developing a custom google checkout shopping cart. There are two basic requirements:
1) use of an SSL cert that is on Google approved list
2) the ability to configure basic authentication

I've already verified Host Gator's SSL cert will work just fine but I'm trying to find out if basic auth is configurable on your shared hosting.

From Google:
"You'll need to configure basic authentication on this server to accept your Merchant ID and Merchant Key as a login and password."

Is this supported? I've either received no response or "I don't knows" from every other host I've contacted. I'm hoping Host Gator will be "the one".

Thanks!
Sarah

Default Re: support for basic auth?

Hello,
Yes we do support Basic Authentication on our servers. Basic authentication can be used by modifying your htaccess file, and adding a couple of lines in there.

You can also use Basic Authentication in different programming languages such as PHP.
