I'm in the process of setting up my new VPS, woo hoo!
Question, in terms of performance, which one for a level 6 would run best, Suphp or Fastcgi? I've been doing some googling, but it seems to be half and half. Curious if anyone else out there has noticed any benefits over one another. On a side note, I do plan on using eAccelerator with my script. |

Hello,
eAccelerator will not work with php running as suPHP. So I suppose that answers your question for you ![]() One of the first things I personally do on an overloaded box is switch php to fcgi. It allows for php caching to be setup, and generally has a lower CPU overhead than suPHP. While suPHP is a great thing, some situations and configurations require something else. If you intend on using eA or any other caching, then fcgi or DSO would be the way to go. If you have no plan on using caching, and don't have load issues, then there's no reason not to run suPHP. I hope this has been helpul.

With or without eAccelerator, FastCGI will probably be the best option if you are only running a few sites. It keeps processes spawned so you don't run into the overhead of spawning PHP processes again.

Thanks everyone for your input. I decided to switch over to running fcgi with suexec, but every time I make the switch, then restart apache. I get an error, permission issue.
After I make the switch to fcgi, is there a script I need to run that changes the permissions on all my files/folders? Currently, they're all 0755 for folders and 0644 on the files. I've had a ticket open on support, but no one has been able to get this working. |
