I'm posting in this forum because I can't post anywhere else yet. I have a suggestion that I think would take some of the burden off of the HG support team. As soon as you have an account with HG, you should have automatic access to the forums. Think about it...when do people have the most questions? When they just open their account and are trying to get things up and running quickly. I just doesn't make sense to make new users wait to access the best new user resource available...other users. I would bet having access to the forums would cut down on the number of support tickets etc.

Nice idea, but the BBS software doesn't support that.

Were there's a will there's a way. Haven't used VB much, but I'm sure there's got to be a way to automatically insert a new (verified) account holder's username and password into the VB database with the correct permissions for their account type. Seems like a quick little php script would do the trick.
Everything else with HG has gone quite smoothly, but automating this process a bit might cut down on support tickets and user frustration. Besides, I'm just anxious to have access to the knowledge of those who have gone before me.

If you provide a working model for HG, I'm sure they would be more than happy to install it.

yeah a good idea would be to write a php script that did that..
but meanwhile it would be nice that new users were able to read the forums they suscribed for..shared, dedicadet etc...and be able to post only when a staff member approves it... saludos

Actually there is a built in module within our billing system that allows automated forum 'accounts' being created/activated.
I'll pass the idea by the team and see what we can do to have it implemented. I concur with the whole idea regarding getting folks situated both here and with our knowledgebase to reduce tickets. Implementation of it is always another deal entirely though. |

Read only is a good solution.

I wouldn't have wanted to see my reseller name become my forum name, though. That's something to be wary about.

Kudos to Gator Dave! I think this is splendid idea, not only for your customers, but also for the support team.

Perhaps a way for customers to register for the forum by providing their customer username/password as verification, but being allowed to choose their forum username/password upon registration. That was a mouthful...hope it made sense. |
