A topic for newbies would be my suggestion. This is such a nice board (vbulletin). As I scan through some of the topics and threads for the first time, my head is spinning. I do have some background in programming, so I know I will figure out how to setup my website and message forum, but a topic here for newbies would be great to post some easy questions.
Maybe a USER-supported newbie topic would be good enough. When the experienced gatorites come on to check their other topics, they can pop in on the newbie topic and help a new gator. just a thought. |

I kinda wish we had a HostGator Wiki. That would be cool.

I vote and would support that.

I did a quick Google search and found this web hosting wiki
http://wiki.hostin.org/index.php?title=Main_Page It's pretty much empty (maybe completely empty), and of course it is not specific to HG. |

I think an general wiki would cause too many questions, people really need host specific answers. The differences between helm and cpanel would send most causal users into a coma...

So either HG sets one up as part of its suite of support services, or someone volunteers to host it on their account. I'm fairly community minded, but I'm not setting one up for free.

Wikia offers free wiki hosting, but I'm not sure if our purpose is good with their TOS.

For anyone who's interested - I set up a wiki (HG) here:
http://gatorwiki.holmis.se/ This is on a trial basis to see if it does any good... Comments / suggestions greatly appreciated ![]() This depends on the usage of HG clients, so go fill up that wiki... |

Hi, Holmis,
I just registered over there but I don't know if it took...there's no user-feedback after I clicked the button, such as "check your email" or "welcome, new user" or "logged in" or whatever... Just to be clear, the idea is to put all the useful "how-to" stuff over there so people can find and expand on it? great idea, everybody Update: my new registration didn't take...I got 'invalid user name or password'. |

I think one of the coders at vbulletin.org is working on a wiki based module for this forum software.

well at the beggining I tought on a HG supported wiki. At this point a big part of the information present in this forum is not public. Only members can access it. Are we making a mutiny agaist the caption of the ship and building another ship elsewhere ?
![]() This is fun ! ![]() oh, MediaWiki is much cleaner and easy to use. At my work we use it for organizing everthing (meetings, external orders, pass information about tricks about how to use particupar programs and computers, etc). Vtrain P.S: Serra, will you release your topics as a Creative Communs licence?

Oups, guess I have to check my own post a bit more carefully in the future. As said before, the tld is .se not .net.

...and apparently, I'm clueless how to operate it. I can edit, but I'm not sure how to put new topic links on to it.

Other way is edit a page and create a wiki link on that page... then render the page and click the just created link. Since it does not exist you are old if you want to create a page to that link. Vtrain P.S: Some typical wiki code to play a bit. Code:
wiki link:
[[Text to be seen|link name]]
normal link:
[http://URL Text]
To create a separation in the page:
== Title Text ==
To do a table the code is:
{| {{Prettytable-R}}
|+ ''Title'''
|text column 1, row 1
|text column 2, row 1
|-
|text column 1, row 2
|text column 2, row 2
|-
|text column 1, row 3
|text column 2, row 3
|-
|text column 1, row 4
|text column 2, row 4
|-
|}
I have just filled the help editing section with content taken from wikipedia: http://gatorwiki.holmis.se/index.php?title=Help:Editing
