Default Sub domain redirect

I was wondering if it was possible to have a sub-domain redirect to another ip address. Example:

www.mysite.com - this would go to normal public folder on hostgator server
pics.mysite.com - this would redirect to a non hostgator server

I tried using the sub domains feature in cpanel putting the ip address, but that doesn't seem to work correctly.

Thanks in advance

I set up a test subdomain http://play.motleyville.com, viewed the empty page http://play.motleyville.com (to see nothing really... cgi-bin folder, redirect seems like it works 100% if I simply view it first) and then Manage Redirection. I put http://www.yahoo.com and it seems to work like a charm.

What happens when you do yours? More specifically than "doesn't seem to work correctly."

I setup a sub domain in cpanel and associated it with an ip address (address only, no http://). When I view it in a browser it goes to the following url (my info has been removed):

http://pic.mysite.com/home/username/..._html/pics/(ip address I entered in cpanel).

So, it seems like its redirecting to a sub folder on the hostgator box.

I believe you will have to open a ticket with support and ask them to add an A record to the DNS Zone for your domain.

Yes, exactly what GvilleRick said. Ask support to add an A record from the "pics" subdomain to whichever IP you'd like. Remember it will take time for DNS to propagate.

If you're a reseller or have a dedicated you can do it yourself. Otherwise support has to change the DNS zone.
