Hello smart people,
I tryed to store a back-upped website from my old host to my new Hostgator account, but i'm not smart enough to do so apparently, and i didn't succeed. On my old host I backupped the website (in Plesk 8), downloaded it and on my new host here on HG. I tryed in cpanel to restore to an "addon domain". (couldn't find an option to choose for a specific domain though) Any idea what i could have done wrong? Is it possible to use a backup from |Plesk> to >cPanel| ? Greatings Foxman PS: I shall not cry, if this is not possible.

I don't use Plesk since an eternity but I presume thats no compatible with cpanel.
Ask support perhaps they have a direct solution support@hostgator.com If not, Perhaps backup your databases and more the site per FTP (Remember passive mode) the upload the databases with phpmyadmin or backup. Be care of the php and mysql versions and settings (uft8 or not, myIsam or not, ..) If you do not have a lot of mail boxes, manually recreate so you will be coherent with mailman and HG in general. |

Thanks for your reply,
I think i will just start from scratch... it's not realy much of a website anyway. :P (New project) But would be nice when i want to move my other website also to my account here, if i could just place a back-up of the site...

You cab do a double backup:
The Plesk backup (in case) and a FTP/DB backup. If it's for me, Iwill do this on some NON rewriteable CD or DVD instead of the server, Then you upload FTP abd DB et voila. No need to have the Plesk B.up on the server other than a double localization for security. |

i think your question is about moving your site to hostgator.
download all files to desktop, and export all database to file. ya, use the addon domain in cpanel to add your existing domain. and from your existing domain, control panel, change the name server to hostgator name server given. wait a day or 2 to propagate completely. after that, ftp login to hostgator, upload all your files, and setup the database if any. done!
