I just had a look at HostMonster's cPanel demo. HostMonster offers an "SSL Manager" that allows a user of a cPanel user "to add, remove and view SSL keys, signing requests, certificates."
I also had a look at the latest cPanel demo on the cPanel site. In addtion to a an "SSL Manager," cPanel's demo version also includes an "SSL Installer." I suggest that HostGator should also offer an "SSL Manager" and an "SSL Installer" to cPanel users as soon as possible. Last edited by Rotag; 04-07-2007 at 04:49 PM. |

And give up the $10.00 fee to install them? Why would they want to do that?

I'm sure that the amount of money they make off the $10.00 far exceeds the loss of a few customers. I'd say 99% of customer don't want to know how to install SSLs, thinking its too much trouble. |

But if HostGator fails to enable "SSL Manager" and "SSL Installer" in cPanel, they run the risk of losing (or not attracting) those few customers who would prefer to install their own SSLs. Maybe HostGator doesn't care about the needs of the few. If so, then all the more reason that I should go elsewhere. |

And if you chose a host over a $10 fee, well then enjoy HostMonster

HostGator:
After considering the learned words of Serra and PsiPro, I respectfully withdraw my suggestion in its entirety. No right thinking customer could possibly want to have access to the "SSL Manager" in cPanel, and I was a fool to have ever thought that a customer might want such access. In fact, as I think more about it, every aspect of HostGator is perfect. So please don't change a thing! But I suppose that, given everything is perfect and without need for change, you might want to eliminate this "suggestions" forum. But please don't misinterpret this observation to be a suggestion, for you are all knowing and I am but a mere customer. Your newest sycophant, Rotag |

I apologies if you didn't get the humor, but it HAS BEEN suggested about 100 times and Hostgator seems unwilling to allow that access.

And my apologies for my snarky reply. I originally thought you were kidding, but the reply of another set me off, and so I lashed out at both of you. I didn't do an extensive search before posting my suggestion. But good to know others might also like the option to install their own SSLs. And for what it's worth, my reasons for wishing to do so have little to do with a desire to save $10. Rather, I would just like to have the freedom to add an SSL without any need to deal with Customer Support. HostGator: I was originally attracted to your services because I thought that you didn't impose arbitrary restrictions on cPanel's standard features. I'm disappointed that I was wrong about that. |

I do agree that having the ability to install certificates would be nice, but as PsiPro pointed out, its not a deal breaker. |

I'd rather pay them (hostgator) to do it than waste my time on the installation.
The end result is that it costs my clients less eitherway. I chagre a lot more than $10 per quarter hour, and I don't have to deal with any headaches if a server glitch arises.

I never even thought of doing an SSL install myself as a reseller. It was just too easy to have HG do it. I billed the client the $10.00 and that was that. |
