Is it possible to self-install an SSL purchased elsewhere?
What's the reasoning behind turning off the self-install feature in CP? Paying HG to do something rather simple can get expensive if you need private certificates installed on multiple domains. What do the charge anyway? One thread referred to a $50/cert cost. Here http://www.hostgator.com/ssl.shtml it says: "If you require assistance from us to install it there will be a $25.00 installation fee" Seems rather obvious I'll need assistance if I can't install it through CP. Yet, here http://www.hostgator.com/services.shtml they say: "You are welcome to provide us with the SSL and we will install it for $30" Thanks |

If you have a shared or reseller account you cannot install the SSL yourself. If I'm correct the price is $25, but please ask sales to be sure. The different prices on those two pages are confusing indeed. I will ask this to be corrected.
If you have a dedicated server you can install the SSL yourself, that's when the "if you require further assistance" could be usefull Stef. |

Actually, Stef, I just changed my CPanel to RVSkin and there is an SSL manager. The only catch is that you need to purchase a dedicated IP before the installer will be activated. After that (I assume) you can install your own certificate.
Stef, please correct me if I am wrong. Greg |

Greg,
despite the link, you will not (or should not ) be able to install the certificate yourself. This has to be done by HostGator.I can confirm the installation fee is $25. Stef. |

Who knows....http://www.hostgator.com/services.shtml says it's $30, whereas http://www.hostgator.com/faq.shtml#10 says its $25. HG has too many pages that cross-reference prices and they don't always update them to match each other.
I would suggest to HG to create a MySQL database with ALL of your prices and replace ALL pages with price references with queries. That way you can update your prices in one location and it will update the entire site automatically. Greg |
