Hi. I've got a Business Level Account and my CPanel addons offer a private SSL key and dedicated IP. I can't tell if what I have is functional, and despite a lot of web-searching for simple tutorials on how to implement SSL security for my site, I've still got no idea whatsoever how I go about actually securing the pages I need secured.
I want to use Google Checkout as one of my gateways and it demands an API callback url that is secured by an approved SSL certificate provider; Comodo is approved but from what I can tell, looking at CPanel, my certificate is shared and issued by PositivSSL or somesuch. I'd really appreciate any help in ensuring my shop pages are secured (it's not the whole of my site, but a portion) and using the https protocol, and that my SSL certificate is indeed private and issued by Comodo (whom HostGator says they use for private certificates). I really hope that running a small shop securely does not depend on my ability to comprehend the functionality of SSL, because I don't -- I just want to be able to use it in the most basically effective ways. All help earns profound gratitude.

The easiest fix for me was to put a support request in.
The free SSL for the Business account is for your Main URL that you signed up with, and that is all it will work on. If you have a different URL in mind, I bet support can swap them. (I had USA2K.com to start, so I did not need to do anything but ask for setup help) Once it is working, you should be able to use HTTPS or HTTP on a normal web page. For me, I am using Drupal with a Security Module. This module will force https://usa2k.com to be HTTP. It will also force http://usa2k.com/contact to become HTTPS. Once the Cert was setup correctly, it has functioned as expected

Yeah, it's for my main url. I'll put in a support request. Thanks.
I do want to force a directory to be https. I'm using Wordpress as my CMS, with an e-commerce plugin in this particular directory. |
