Our situation. We have an HG semi-dedicated plan. Our primary domain is www.primary.com . We have add-on domains www.addon1.com and www.addon2.com . We needed an SSL for the check on all 3 domains. Initially, HG support via live chat told us that the $75 SSL cert would work for all 3. We had the SSL cert installed. https://www.primary.com is valid and works for all the pages on the primary domain such as https://www.primary.com/about-us.html. Turns out the add-ons cannot have an SSL since they are subdomains and dont have their own cpanel. I checked around and this appears to be true.
HG support then told since the add-ons are treated like subdomains we can use the SSL like https://addon1.primary.com and all the pages of the addon such as https://addon1.primary.com/addon1-page1.html . Initially this worked but now these pages do not exist. I contacted HG support today via live chat and talked to 3 different people (they kept transferring me) who gave 3 different answers. I was told: a. HG Support 1: I have to pay an extra $10 per subdomain/addon b. HG Support 2: https://addon1.primary.com/addon1-page1.html should work c. HG Support 3: It has to be https://domain/subdomainfolder but he would not give me an example of a url that works for our domain. I tried creating a support ticket with HG but the ticket support just keeps saying they cant do an SSL for an addon, only subdomains but wont address our specific situation. We are in need of desparate help. Just looking for a resolution. I can send the chat transcript and give the ticket number if needed. Thanks, SF |

If you can access your subdomain through a directory on your main domain, you can just use the SSL like that. Can you?

Rule number 1: You must have an IP address for each SSL.
Rule number 2: You must have a cPanel account for each SSL. If you can do it without breaking those two rules, you are golden. |

Multiple sub-domains will only work with a Wildcard SSL cert. I have never seen a wildcard SSL that will work with multiple domains, but they may exists...
Either way, a wildcard SSL for multiple subdomains runs around $500, just not worth it for most sites. Last edited by PsiPro; 02-02-2007 at 04:07 PM. |
