I am referring to Linux dedicated server(s).
Can you use SSH tunneling and run VNC on them? Or is that not allowed? or maybe the dedicated servers don't have an X-Server installed? And you do give full root access to dedicated servers? Thank you. |

No, the servers don't have X-Server installed, and yes, you get full root access.

VNC requires it and using VNC or even "ssh -X" its fairly easy to update and install software. I want to use the dedicated server for multiple purposes not just a web server. Thank you for the quick reply. |

Yes, this is possible but not going to be supported by us.
Since you have full root access to the server you can adjust the run levels and install a desktop environment if you want. Please remember that our servers are designed to be just that, servers, and not a remote desktop tool. In short, yes you can do it and it will not violate any acceptable use or our TOS but if you run into problems we cannot assist you. |

You will not be able to assist me regarding the X-Server?
However you will assist me regarding something else if needed, correct? Sorry for the misunderstanding. |

HidePoint, IMO this should be considered a strength, not a weakness, of HG--being honest, rather than expansive, about knowledge limitations.

Just because you install the X-server does not mean you become an unmanaged server. We will still provide assistance as if it wasn't there. We simply couldn't assist with any issues pertaining to the installation or repair of the remote desktop configs. |

Looks like I erred - an X Server isn't required to tunnel SSH -X, with that: your ssh client becomes the X server, of course that will only work if you use linux yourself. With a root password and ssh -x you will pretty much have an easy time installing anything just like you would on your own pc.
Thanks for your help. |
