After receiving my VPS, I set SSHd to operate on Port 2222, restarted the SSH server and had no problem accessing the VPS via SSH. At least that was the case until today's system reboot, after which I could not log into SSH on Port 2222 or 22 for that matter.
Using the Parallels Power Panel file manager to download, edit and upload the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file I reset the port back to 22, restarted the SSH server and was able to log in again. Has anyone other than myself seen this occur and what if any solution is there to prevent it happening again the next time the VPS is rebooted? |

Did you open port 2222 for tcp connections IN in the firewall?

Apparently when I reconfigured the default SSH port a firewall rule was created on the fly which permitted SSH access on Port 2222 for the three days since I made the initial change. The server reboot deleted that temporary rule and access was thereafter silently blocked on Port 2222. It would seem that during the shutdown for reboot that "firewall stop" did not perform an iptables save operation as one might assume. Sounds like I need to install the CFS/LFD |
