Lightbulb SquirrelMail Suggestions (addons)

My school uses SquirrelMail and introduced me to the following completely awesome features that make my life easier.

Here they are:

-SpamAssassin+SQL
-Easier to manage then going into cPanel to get a confusing as hell config file. The Spam settings are right inside SquirrelMail's Options This will be good for my clients who aren't as good with computers or cPanel.

http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugins_...?category_id=3

-Message Filter
-Same thing that's installed on webmail.hostgator.com in options that allows you to say "if subject has "pills" then move to whatever folder you select. I like to use it for that as well as "@yahoo.com" goes to "Jeff" as an example so i can keep my clients in their own folders.

My school e-mail is clean and easy to keep up with because of these two tools alone. I've turned on Spam Assassin in cPanel and dont know if its working cause im afraid to leave it on as I dont see instant results and options like i do with the SQL version that...well..makes more sense to be honest.

Just my thoughts. Thanks!

If hostgator installed plugins for the webmail programs.. they would keep getting overwritten by cPanel updates.. your best to install your own webmail script

You can easily install NutsMail webmail client yourself

I'm a reseller...not a dedicated server. To install mail clients you need root access.

Plus, pay for a templated squirrelmail or...install addons...meh

Nope, there is alot of resellers on these forums that have installed their own mail clients in subdomains on their sites that all their clients can use..

You just need to get the code upload it to your site and configure it

Hmm...well I just looked at nutsmail and they want SSH access. I'll look into it more though.

But still, point I was making is it would be nice to get some of the standard plugins installed so everyone can use them. but i do understand the whole cPanel updating stuff of course. Also that any update is a major update to do o so many servers....

Horde has filters and blacklist and whitelists...

Like Sam said there are lots of people around here that would be willing to help you with your own installation..

When I was on my reseller box I installed squirrelmail, nutsmail, and roundcube without problems. If you want to request modifications to the cPanel versions of these tools you should suggest it on cPanel.net. Otherwise install your own. You will be much, much happier and get to do whatever you want with plugins--including installing the highly recommended by me "Administration" plugin.

Yes, you can install any of them on any kind of account. If you're a reseller, they'll work for all your clients (which became a nice service I was offering).

This may need to be a new thread so I can start one if it is needed.

But do you know of any documentation on how to install squirrelmail, roundcube, etc on the server?

Yes all the installation instructions are included when you download the files. If any say to use SSH to chmod, just use your ftp to do the chmod. And remember, if they state 777 permissions, try 755 first.

Thanks. I will take a look at the instructions to see if I understand them.

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you want, but if spamassassin is rewriting the subject lines, you can use cPanel filters to send anything that starts with {Spam?} (for instance) to a folder in your account called "Spam". I do this.
