I'm a realtive newbie reseller and I've read a lot the last few days about SPF Record, which sounds like a great idea, anything that will cut down on spam can't hurt.
I've searched the forums, and read all of the threads dealing with SPF records, but I don't understand it enough, to be brave enough to mess with my DNS record. I would love to see a step by step set of directions either here or in the knowledge base on how to do this specifically with a Host Gator server. I've looked at http://www.openspf.org/wizard.html but I can't even pretent to understand what all of the questions are. I think if it was a knowledge base article, then it would be great to also recommend it to new resellers to set it up for their clients? |

Hi, I'm in the same boat- need to set up SPF but new to it. We're having some spoofing issues with a couple of our domains and I am hoping this will alleviate the issue.
I see that the original poster received help privately. Is it possible to post the information here for others like myself that could benefit from this info? Thanks! Nancy |

Here is a basic SPF record:
v=spf1 a mx ~all a = A records for domain mx = mx (mail) records for domain ~all = softfail (accept but mark) -all (fail) has problems with forwarders (of the receiver) and can cause legitimate e-mails to be rejected. spf syntax: http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax spf testing http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/spf.htm |
