Default Spam Rise

The last 3 weeks have seen a massive spam rise to our email accounts - any ideas? We don't have any viruses hitting these computers - they are scanned daily using the latest updates as they come.

I don't have any idea what could be causing it; however, I must say that I am not pleased with my email access. Half the time it "times out" on me, or runs very slugglishly. When accessing email becomes time-consuming and aggravating, it's a big problem.

Spam Assasin I think is apsolutely useless. IT is suppose to mark emails with spam in the header, funny how they still come through and in fact the only time it actually has marked anything with spam in it was when I sent an email to another person on our website.

Works great for me have you fiddled with the settings? With my threshold at 5 I find it stops most of the spam, it just does not deal well with the worms and viruses but for those you can setup some filters.

Spam assassin for me is catching about 90% of all the spam I get. For me that is approximately 200 messages a day I no longer have to delete.
You also have to tell it what to put in the subject line to indicate it is spam when it arrives in your inbox.

yeah, I've found false positives to be a problem, and the spambox feature that we have with it is also buggy - I can't seem to see the folder with imap clients (OE, Thunderbird). So if spambox and SA are both on, I lose some emails full stop, not getting the chance to check the emails marked as spam by SA. I just keep SA on, and make a filter to move SA-marked emails to another folder. It separates the probable spam from normal email, and I still get the opportunity to check for false positives. I've never had a problem with SA missing *all* spam, though... your issue seems strange to me. try turning it off then back on?

Im curious, have you checked your message headers to be sure spam assassin is really processing your incoming mail? I had several issues last year where spam assasin was activated in cPanel but was *not* processing my email.

Hi,

Well keep trying until the issue gets escalated. Sometime last year I had a similar problem (although in my case the activated SA was not processing the mail). It took one of the senior techs around a week to solve it but since then never again had problems.
