Default Sorry to post here, but...

I signed up with HostGator 10/17/06, but can't get approved to post on the forums. I've registered and have been "awaiting activation" for days now. I've emailed the people I'm supposed to several times to remind them, but I can't get activated.

Good service - love HostGator - but it sounds like I'm not the only one with the problem of getting on the forums. Rather than giving me the same email addresses again and dropping it back in my lap, can someone just "activate" me?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I've only been waiting 1-2 days to be activated. Somehow I thought activation for something I bought would be faster than most of the free message forums?

The nice thing about free forums is that no one has to be paid to support them.

For HG, the accounts have to be compared with sales records, which is a bit slow so it takes a while. PM GatorJay.

I'll PM him. I'm doing well here so far. This place seems a whole lot better than Powweb. At least since Powweb got bought out by Endurance and went to crap.

I don't know anything, but I've managed to get a couple of addon domains working from sub folders. Now I'm giving myself a major headache trying to figger out how to do an htaccess rewrite? command so that my subdomains show as www.subdomain.com/sample.jpg in the browser instead of www.maindomain.com/subdomain/sample.jpg I imagine the answer is here someplace in an area I can't access yet.. - Joe

That should be automatic for addon domains. Normally you don't need to do anything, as long as they start at http://subdomain.com

Look at www.pinaylady.net and you'll see what I mean? The URL in the browser isn't right. I probably just don't have something set right. I've only had this 1-2 days and never seen cpanel before. - Joe

The addon domain is not setup correctly.

The thing is that you do NOT need any redirects or anything special in .htaccess.
You simply set up the addon domain, and it creates the subdirectory for you, and you put the files of that addon domain to that directory, and NOTHING else.

I got it. I had already created a subfolder before I made the addon domain. It was too easy. I was used to powweb where it's impossible to do all these type of things without htaccess rewrites and all manner of ugly bandaids.

Thanks! - Joe

I found this on a page at http://www.hostgator.com/company.shtml

We welcome you to give us a test call at 1-866-964-2867. Are you still not sure if hostgator is the right choice? What if you had a special hookup? Well you do! Our owner Brent Oxley is at your disposal for any problems you may have. While Brent might not be reachable by phone all the time you are welcome to request your ticket be assigned to him for the extra TLC you deserve!

So just call the support line and ask to have your ticket about forum activation assigned to Brent.. I've been waiting a week for access and I'm tempted. - Joe

I'm fairly sure that if you call in a ticket for Brent, your forum id will be activiated, but I'm not sure how happy Brent would be with you after that.

Got it, thanks! (And I didn't have to call in a ticket).

That's not true. By definition, anybody who is smart enough to observe that knows a lot more than s/he thinks. The people who think they know enough will never know enough.
