I need to disagree with the glowing reports I've read here. I can't believe that HG has no ability to cross reference previous trouble tickets on an account.
The current issue has hit again, and I think this is the final straw. Does anyone realise how frustrating it is to receive multiple answers which contradict each other to the same question? The e-mail today was the final kick in the teeth.

Here are some of the recent ticket numbers on this issue:
SFH-717263 <--- today's frustrating exchange wherein I finally was told that support has no way to track tickets per account and cross reference. I had to call support to find that out. My question of "Can you see all of my tickets?" on the tickets asking about it were never responded to. KWR-578666 <---most info LVO-625785 Update: (4/20) Mail is still disabled - outage is going on 52 hours now. No progress is being made. Last edited by Potion Mistress; 04-20-2006 at 01:22 PM. Still down. Something was changed in the server config which is preventing the mail script from running. Was promised an e-mail from an admin within 10 minutes last time I checked with tech support.
Nothing yet. Host Gator seemed like the perfect solution, lots of goodies, etc, but what's the use of having a good deal of up time when your e-mail is bolluxed up on a reoccuring basis even though what you are running conforms to HG's TOS to the letter? I like the fact my sites are up, but with no e-mail, they're crippled. |

Sent a message to close the ticket since I am not receiving the responses I was promised from support for something they caused to begin with.
This was the final opportunity HG had to make a favourable impression, and so I will now re-evaluate having accounts here, even though it was only one of the accounts that was continually having issues. |

I think I know why your cron keeps getting disabled. I was looking through the logs on last server high load. (we investigate all high loads)
Your cron runs at beginning of the hour exactly. This wouldn't be a problem accept there seems to be someone on your server who keeps flooding out the crons with 100+ running same time at beginning of hour as well. This amount of crons causes the box to overload / crash. So what we did was disable all his crons that are running on top of the hour and it looks like yours gets thrown in for running the same time. I'm having someone fix your cron and set it to run something other than beginning of hour as that seems to be the problem. He will be updated the ticket for you shortly.

You finally figured this out? After my cron has been disabled, and I have been accused of causing server load which is IMPOSSIBLE since I have it built into the script that if server load is creeping up, to not do anything during that pass, and yet I have been constantly disabled without warning.
AND NOW, after a hellish three days with no mail, and no response from HG which I was promised there would be, and I asked that the ticket be closed because I found a way around you, and got my scrupt working again, after all that, I receive an email from tech, stating (NOT ASKING, ) that he took it upon himself to modify my cron to run once every 2 hours. And that he can see the script is running fine, and not causing issues. This means you have backlogged my mail again, since each time it runs, it processes a max of 50 e-mails. And now I am sending 50 e-mails every 2 hours. This is unacceptable, and placing a huge burden on me. My e-mail is now backing up like I-4 in rush hour. If you have finally found out who on the box is running the resource-eating proces, why not simply e-mail me, and ask me to skip running at the top of the hour? I sent a reply insisting my cron be changed back to run every 15 minutes as is compatable with HG's TOS and again, am not receiving a response, meanwhile my members are once again seeing e-mail issues. I tell them the what is happening, but in the end it comes down on me. If you want any chance of keeping my accounts, please have him change the cron kick off time BACK to every 15 minutes NOW, and I will have the script modified tonight to skip top of the hour. I will be very surprised if I receive any type of reply from either you or the person who modified by cron without notice. Do you realise how much trouble results from actions taken without informing the member first? We could have worked together on this, but all I have had are a series of mail-crippling incidents when I knew it wasn't my issue to begin with. And will you do anything about the member who is running the processes at top of the hour?

Once again, no constructive anything from tech support, so I'll handle it myself. If you depend on e-mail, this may not be the best hosting option for you.

I set it back up myself, not a peep from support, so, after it has been acknowledged that my cron job is not the resource problem, perhaps Abuse can manage to go a few weeks without deleting it again or modifying it in any way, so I can actually have a functional site for as long as I will be on this hosting service, which probably won't be that long, actually, as with the past history - someone will delete the cron again in Abuse, even knowing it isn't the problem.
If it happens again, I won't bother to open a ticket - that has been nothing but an exercise in frustration with no resolutions at all from support. Host Gator is excellent on up time, not very good if you rely upon mail or other services which require setting up cron jobs to stay within the TOS of 200 mails per hour max, and dealing with support is an unbelievable hassle. |

How many emails a day are you doing? Also please pm me, I don't get to much time to check in here very often. I'd love to help you as much as I can.
