Some services questions...

OK, I've been reading through the questions here and some of them have answered my own questions. But, I have a few more...

We are considering switching to a new web host. I'm the "webmaster" for what that is worth and am not a newb, but not a seasoned expert either. First, we are a small company and certainly don't come close to your storage/bandwidth limitations. We are under 100mb and shouldn't grow to much more than double or triple that amount. We run our own shopping cart / store and it does need to be Secure.

1. Please let me know about shared SSL. Do the secure files need to be placed in a separate secure directory or server or are they called through a secure link? For example. http://www.mysite.com/xyz/link.html (unsecure) to call that same file with the same physical location though https://mysecuresite.com/xyz/link.html is secured?

1a. Does shared SSL cost any extra per month?

1b. What is Private SSL? Please enlighten me... ;-)

2. Your Hatchling service. What is the price if paid monthly? I only find the price monthly if paid yearly.

3. I want to be able to upload our existing data, store etc and make sure everything is up and running prior to switching. Is this a problem?

3a. How long will I have before I have to move our domain name to your server?

(). We currently have and will need PHP. One of the software packages I want to run needs to have a change ownership run before installation. Here is text directly from the software website: "In case PHP runs as module of the Apache, you will have to be able to do a chown on the files before installation. The files and directories must be owned by the Apache user."

4a. Is this operation possible? Our current service doesn't allow this, do you?

4b. Does CHOWN have to be done by via the helpdesk, or can I as the user do this?

5. You show a feature of web based FTP. Do I have to use it or can I continue to use my Filezilla FTP software to upload / download files to the server? Or any ftp software for that fact.

6. Are the instant backups automatic or initiated by me? Do you store the backups? What RAID # are your server disks?

7. Is hotlink protection automatic?

8. I'm worried about other users in the shared environment using too much bandwidth or resources. What do you do to monitor and correct these situations?

8a. What happens in the case of too much bandwidth being used in a given month?

8b. What happens in the case of too many resources being used?

8c. What are the resource limitations?

9. What are the advantages of a dedicated IP?

1. "Shared SSL" Would basically be secure[insertservernumberhere].hostgator.com inwhich secured file's don't really need to be put anywhere in general, same thing with private ssl.

1a. No.
1b. "Private SSL" is inwhich you'll have to pay for you're own SSL cert which is somewhere around $75/y along with the costs of a private IP. This would be something like: https://mydomain.com/

2. Hatchling can only be paid yearly.

3. You would just need to upload all of the data and view it via: http://serverip/~username/ before changing the DNS.

3a. As long as you want to take really.

4. I don't exactly know if this is possible, check with support.

4b. Chown would need to be done by an admin.

5. You can use any ftp software.

6. They are automatically backed up off-site and also there is a RAID setup, I don't know the exact type though.

7. You can enable it inside cPanel.

8. cPanel monitors this always and never lets it over, you are ofcourse guaranteed your bandwidth and space.

8a. You're account will be suspended untill a.) You upgrade. b.) The next month's renewal.

8b. If you use more then 25% resources for more then 90 seconds you will be suspended.

9. Mainly the dedicated IP is needed for SSL.
