Lightbulb Some Pre-Sales Questions

1. i'm in the UK, so what exchange rates apply when i pay from here. I use online exchange rate sites to get an estimate of the current global exchange rate, but i wanted to know what exact rate you use.

2. Do you run Windows 2003 servers or just linux.

3. can i run ASP.NET (aspx) pages on you system.

4. The price for ENOM domains you've quoted ($8.50) does this apply to .co.uk domains also, or just gTLD's

5. Do you provide smtp setting for sending email, or do i use my ISP, like some other hostign companies do.

6. Do you support MSSQL database.

Thanks

1: All fees are to be paid in US dollars, so whatever the current exchange rate is. I am not sure of it off hand, but there are plenty of online currency converters that will help you with that.

2: All of our servers are Linux-based.

3: If you choose to have ChiliAsp installed, you may run standard ASP pages, but not ASP.NET.

4: I believe the cost for .co.uk would be the same, but I am not 100% certain. An email to sales@hostgator.com will answer this, or perhaps someone else can respond here who has the answer.

5: SMTP as well as POP3 are provided.

6: No, we only offer mySQL database support at this time.

Lightbulb Email Questions

1. Do your mailboxes have virus scanning, or is this an additional feature to add on?

2. do you have various types of mailboxes

3. Is there a limit on attachment sizes being sent form a mailbox and being recieved.

4. I know you can create unlimited POP3 mailboxes, but what size will they be. Can you make them various sizes depending on the user or can you increase the size.

Hi,

1:Currency fluctuations are working in our favour right now, especially those of us in Europe that use the Euro we are far from the 1:1 ratio we started out with, now it's more like 1:1,30 which may not seem much but over a few months its pretty good :-)

4: Here is enom's pricing, apparently co.uk need to be registered for 2 years working out to $14.99 in total.

Antonio.

Thanks for that Antonio. I assume that $14.99 price is ex VAT? or not?

Since you are in Europe, can i ask a general support question.

- do you ever have to call host gator support in the US, or are most problems resolved, via forums, email, instant messaging etc?

Hmmm I don't think there are any hidden fees, you should really check with enom on that. I would suggest you look at buying your domain in the uk though, it would probably work out better in terms of price.

As far as calling in to tech support no, in 10 months never had the need to call them up, the issues have been resolved through email, common questions/problems get resolved here in the forum, I gave support chat a try or two on ICQ and that never worked for me and as some of the Gators have said in any of the less common issues it's better to go straight through to email support.

As far as the e-mail support over the last few incidents I have noticed better knowledge, faster problem resolution and detailed reporting back on what were the issues, how/why they happened.

Never had any extended downtime on any of the crucial services, major issues have been with non critical things such as spam assassin and other mail related along with 1 or 2 php configuration issues.

Antonio.
