I've been going through the members lists here - just to get an idea of what various members do and how they've even been promoting their services as a web host. So far I've found that 99% are hatchling crocs - or so it seems. Is this because once they've got themselves sorted out they don't come back to the forums here?
I have worked out (I think) that the title relates to how many posts someone has made here - much like other board forums I've seen elsewhere. Was just interested in finding some of the more senior (long-term) members here. I'm a curious hatchling.

There are LOT of Dedicated members here,
The percentage of registered users would be inactive shared account users. And the percentage of posts would also be from shared users asking for help.

Thanks. I've always been one for learning and sharing, and in sharing I learn even more. I'll be sticking around - I'm learning lots from the various threads.
Thanks Jordan.

Most members show up to complain or to get help on some specific problem. That is really the purpose of this forum, just to help people. Most of those users don't know enough to help others, so they don't hang around.
There are a large group of regular users who do help a lot. If you have questions or answers, feel free to hang around and ask/answer. As Jordanlw pointed out, a large segment of the regular posters here are running their own machines and can answer just about any question that comes up that is related to Hostgator's systems. |

Thanks Serra. Their own machines? You mean their own servers as well? I've been hosting for myself and my clients for a few years but found I didn't have to have as much 'hands-on' as it appears I might need to here. Which means I'm going through a new growing stage and that's probably good. I decided I needed a backup hosting support service - just in case, and was pleasantly surprised with the pricing and availability. What I've been paying for the other service is considerably higher and I thought I was on a good deal! But then I haven't actively looked around for a few years - things change, and improve.

The good thing about HG is that you don't need to be hands-on at all. Of course, some of us care a great deal about our businesses, so we are a little more hands on than some of the others, don't let our aggressiveness turn you off. The hands-off approach works fine for many businesses. The problem is that most of us are running a value-added service, which means that hands-on is required.

Yep, this forum is really helpful. some members are a good source of hosting know-how and HG staff is quite good as well. At least they don't hide their issues (as Fasthosts does, btw).

You also have a few lurkers around that only come to the forums to get their daily dose of drama. That would be the category I fall into. But on occasion try to help out as well as ask for help

I bet. But is there ever a time when someone says, Sam, don't you need a life?

Amazingly, the more time spent here the more time saved on the stuff that brings people here, so clearly another of the forum's many benefits is the Moebius-like effect on time.
