Hi all.
I am trying a new search suite and hopefully adding and search directory to it in the near future. Some of the freeware news feeds that you can get are awesome! Anyway the site [Not complete] is located at: http://www.snagglefoot.com Please feel free to send sites and comments, good or bad as both are necessary. Thanks lots. Chipfryer. |

If you're looking to compete with Google or Yahoo, it's going to take a lot of time and effort.
I'd suggest either A) try to focus on a specific audience and readjust your content feeds accordingly or B) redesign your web site so it's more "user friendly." When you open the site, your eye doesn't know where to look, besides the search box at the top. The content seems haphazardly dropped in places.Maybe you want to target soccer players, techies, or investors? It's hard to tell. I'd suggest narrowing your topics and then you'll get a much more "devoted" user base that returns frequently. As for the search, I have nothing to say but good luck. Out of curiousity I searched for "xbox" and although the results were relevant, they weren't great. On the plus side, you have a good "content" flow that doesn't overwhelm people once they click a link. It's usually a simple design from the homepage. |

Hi Tideshark.
Many thanks for the reply. All your comments are very valid ones and I'll look into them in the next few weeks. The search as you pointed out does not include some listings that are shown on the big boys sites. But one thing I have learned through research is that a huge amount of listings on Google/Yahoo etc are mostly doorway pages and repeat results. When I index a site I take the Homepage and perhaps four carefully selected subpages and only these are listed. However having said that the form online of just for this purpose when folks cannot find what they are looking for. I think your right about a lot of it and will look into it further. It's a hard job in any case trying to find the niche. I basically set this up because I was truly sick of Yahoo adds and somewhere where I could go to find my stuff so its perhaps not the best as yet as you quite rightly say. Thank you very - very much for you input and valid points. Sincerely Mark. |

Hi Mike.
Listen thank you for the comments and I love the story too, not so good for you I suspect until later on I read. I know exactly what you mean about selling people on things. I have not really tried too hard so far and have a lot of projects on the go right now [Personal sadly]. I think I truly hate banners and adds LOL! I know they make money and things but I am so busy creating I find it hard to keep track of it all sometimes I am looking into the rights issue now as it happens and trying to formulate a good sales contract or policy with this in mind. I notice some designers retain rights on the website they created and sold to someone else... Very odd. I don't know how you can do that? I think you did very well if you were tackling chambers of commerce people, the role of law suits and other things makes it a true nightmare I suppose. This said I think it was a great and telling story from the real world which was nice to read about. Sincerely thank you for the well wishes and I hope you do very good yourself too. Many thanks again. Chipfryer. |
