Default SMTP Authentication Problems?

Is it just me, or does anyone else experience ongoing SMTP authentication errors?

I've been experiencing this too. Very sporadic, works one min, then not the next.

I am on Omni.

With the help of HGS it looks like this may be a C-Panel clitch. It happened today when I added a new e-mail to the account and it corrected itself when I changed the password on my e-mail account. I should note that I have 64 total e-mail boxes on this account in question and all lost SMTP access when I created the new e-mail addy.

Below was the response from HGS after sending in my observations and suggestion that the new e-mail account creation was the cause and changing the password may have resolved the issue.

HGS: "We have noticed this on another server and believe it is a cpanel bug causing shadow file to become corrupt for the email accounts only after adding or removing email accounts. When resetting the password on the email account this normally fixes the issue."

At least I know, now.

Thanks
TVW

THe password change did not help. Sent in a ticket IBW-981869. SMTP has not been working for about 12 hours now!

Thumbs up Re: SMTP Authentication Problems?

Just and update. It seems that I was experiencing multiple issues with my SMTP. HGS got me straightened out and it has been smooth sailing for the last 3 days. First off I was experiencing SMTP connectivity issues on my wireless aircard network. SMTP would stop working, and then a few minutes later it would start working again, very intermittent. Maybe this was caused by high bandwidth utilization or heavy email traffic. This seems to have cleared up. My second issues was when I connected from my home network. I found that my ISP is now blocking SMTP outgoing port 25. I guess this is becoming more common with all the SPAM that is floating around.

Thanks GHS

Not sure if this is related or how long it's been going on, but I had a similar problem a couple months ago. I'm on elantra. Worked with support to fix it (they kept blaming my configuration).

Finally got instructions to remove the account and re-create it. This is my primary account and I wasn't real excited about doing that, so I just send mail through squirrelmail which seems to work fine.

Maybe I'll just change the password and see if that fixes it.

Unhappy Re: SMTP Authentication Problems?

I think Im having the same problem, whenever I delete an account smtp stops working and only if I create it back it works again. My ticket about this issue on support already has like 60 posts. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon.

Do you all have SPF records because they were giving me that problem, I was able to solve it though buy adding some more information to the SPF record... you are trying to send via an email program on your computer right?

I am trying to assist BulaGFX in fixing this issue on their thread so you may want to check it out..

I dont have access to SPF. It seems the only way to fix my problem is by resetting an accounts password. Then if I delete an account, smtp stops working again and I have to again reset password to have smtp working.
To me it looks like a cpanel bug when deleting accounts.

Esl,
Can you write what you added to your SPF or at least (if not much to ask ) the link for the other thread?

Regards.

Ok, so I am a noob, what is SPF???

My POP/SMTP went down again today..

Instead of the SMTP error last time I have a POP error but can not send or rec.

On the server status page of the master control panel I did notice that "Disk sda3 (/usr) was in the red @ 98%. Not sure if it's related but figured I would note it.

A password change did not help this one...

Why does anything IT related pick Monday's or Friday's to take a dump on us poor IT people...lol

Guess I should have Googled it before I showed my Noobness.

SPF=Sender Policy Framework.

I am not sure my SPF policy would have anything to do with the problems I have had. Out of the 64 mailboxes on my account half are used within one location and the rest are all over the country. When I have these problems it's across the board and not isolated to one location.

I'm getting complaints from my users that they have to re-connect a few time before email gets sent. The 1st time they send they get a "bad certificate" message (and they DO NOT have SSL checked on the clients) and then they get bad authentication. Eventually it works. So it's not their settings. I even had one user turn off auth and it worked, so what does that mean? This has to get fixed. We wanted to move users over from our own bank of servers to make our lives easier and this is much more of a hassle then doing it in-house.

Hello Sergio,
I would be glad to post what I added. However my computer just had a security breach and am doing some scans to clean it up; I do not want to login to cPanel at this time. I hope to get this information for you tommorow. Sorry for the delay.
