Hi,
I think there's a small error on this page: http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml When clicking on the "?" next to "Addon/Parked Domains", it gives info about Domains Allowed instead. I presume the link is incorrect. Thanks, Rob. |

It allows unlimited addon/parked domains. Did you have a question about what they are or how they work?

But yeah actually I just wanted to see what it meant exactly, and thus what I'd be missing out on if I went with the hatchling plan. Rob. |

Addon domains work just like any account, but they share a cpanel with the main domain. Sub domains are the ones that have the beginning extention to them. They too share the same cpanel as your main domain. So, say your website was at "mydomain.com." You wanted to add a forum, and you set it up as "forum.mydomain.com." That's a subdomain. When you set it up, your control panel creates a folder in mydomain.com called "forum." You do not get an extra control panel, but manage it through your mydomain.com cpanel. Later, if you wanted to add a second site, anotherdomain.com, you could set it up as an addon domain, so you don't need another account; it works just like any other site you set up, but it "lives" in a folder at mydomain.com. You again manage it through your mydomain.com cpanel. You share space and bandwith for all the sites through whatever you have available from your main domain, mydomain.com in this example. Does that help?
