Positive Slow Server [resolved]

I've been HostGator customer for a few years now. I started on gator4, but then moved to a dedicated server after a few years (you may check my profile to see my posting history here).

A few months ago I started a new website, bought the large plan. Since day one there were only problems. These were the worst of the kind - the 'server performance' issues. That meant the server had a cancer but nobody was/is there to diagnose it.

The biggest problem is the server's response time is very frequently high. You can click 10 times on different page and it loads fine, but on 11th click the page loads like 10 seconds. It happens randomly so there's no way to get any pattern.

Support doesn't know how to fix the problem. My guess is the server is oversold or has some processes that kill the server.

To sum up, the 'business server' is maybe good for domain park hosting. Hosting anything else you look like an amateur fool (from your visitor's point of view). It's no wonder - with the 'nolimit' policy you share your server with monster sites that don't care about your little website.

I don't know what's going on with HostGator but I'll be requesting to move the site to another server in the hopes it doesn't have a cancer. But I'm not too hopeful because when I visit another site on HG servers I see the same problems - sporadic but frequent outages. So my only solution may be to move away because the times when HostGator was a 'good, reliable hosting service' are gone. Now they only live their legend which soon will be forgotten too.

A very disappointed HostGator customer.

Site IP: 174.120.6.60

My name servers:
ns1603.hostgator.com
ns1604.hostgator.com

I'm going to be investigating this myself, the server has little to no load at all to speak of (only 3.46) and is not under heavy duress, IO Wait, CPU Usage, or Memory usage with no users abusing it.

Could you please let me know a ticket ID you have submitted so I can handle this personally? Thank you.

The most recent ticket: EAG-12500631.

To notice the problem, try to go to my site and then click from one random page to another until you notice a hang out of several seconds.. (it could take 10+ clicks or more).

Thank you.

I've forced refreshed the domain nearly 30 times and can't replicate any slowness on my side at all or from several remote locations. Is this only from your location or ISP or have you perhaps tried from a friends location or different ISP that we could at least rule out the one factor (your connection)?

Also, just to point out you can see the load for this server almost rarely goes above 10 and is always low as I've checked with server monitoring group. I've attached the image to this post.

My permanent location is in Illinois, now I'm in Florida and could notice the same problem here..

It seems to be better now, I'll continue watching it (especially after I come back to my main location, within a couple of days). Thank you.

I've seen it be stable for myself, one of my other upper tier administrators was looking into this during my day off and indicated he couldn't replicate any problems from any location so perhaps it was just a brief routing issue with your ISP or some other internet oddity. Let me know if you don't see improvement.
