Default SLOW DOWNS, SERVER Overloads

I know that one gets what they pay for... but I am wondering.. on SHARED hosts how often do the get boggled in SERVER OVERLOADS? are they so crowded that SLOW DOWNS are common?

And don't blame all slow downs on ISP. please!!!

Am on Hostmonster and am debating coming over to Hostgator

Hi there Cheetahten,

I moved this this thread to shared hosting support instead of Customer Reviews since you are not a customer yet and this is not a review of our company.

To answer your question, We have administrators that monitor every one of our servers 24/7 and if one of the servers loads gets above a certain level they will login and correct the issue. We have a dedicated team of administrators that do this. So the straight answer would be, if the server does get over loaded at some point for any reason it would not be that way for long. Slow downs are not common/persistent issue here at HostGator and we pride ourselves on the talent that we have employed here to correct anything that goes wrong on the servers at any time.

If you have any further questions you can always jump into live chat or give us a call at 866-96-GATOR and we'll be glad to answer any that you might have.

Thank you,

Josh Loe

Glad this was moved but perhaps a better location would be Pre-Sales Questions? I don't think the OP will be able to see the reply in this section since it is resticted to full members.

As a customer who's been reading this forum for almost three years--and thus following a variety of server issues and HG's response to them--my perspective is that minimizing server slowdown is more realistic than eliminating it, and preventing it is as important as handling it.

Looking through a sample of the threads in the server status category should suggest how HG handles problems arising at its end. HG also is fairly stringent about warding off account behavior that creates problems for other accounts on the same server.

The TOS specifies a number of activities forbidden to shared hosting accounts because they use too many server resources. Even with these, shared accounts can do an impressive range of activities.

But that said, complainers frequently turn out to have built sites combining several apps with every processor-intensive mod/plugin available, plus a lot of TOS-bending or -breaking features.
