Question Site upload through FTP

Hi everyone !

My partner and I are new customers to HostGator, and i must say the services looks quite appealing.
Now, besides this, i have a pb uploading our pages to your servers.
It seems that when using a normal FTP client, the default path ends up in the 'public_ftp' dir ! And we all know this is not the right place !!

Moreover, if i read your FAQ carefully, you state that the site files ( html, php, etc ) are to be placed in the 'public_html' folder ??? Why not use the good old 'www' directory ???

Can you shed some light on this ???

Thx

I always end up in the '/' folder (root). I suggest you to check your FTP client to make sure it's not auto-connecting to the 'public_ftp' folder.

No luck, i already double-checked my settings.
Thing is, as DNS are not yet up to date, i'm connecting with the IP, maybe that's an issue ???

I even tried to setup an FTP account through CPanel, but no results ...

There is no difference between www and public_html. They both go the same place. The only difference is that the www directory is a symbolic link to public_html, so either will work.

Your ftp problem sounds like a configuration problem with your client. What client are you using? Have you tried connecting with any other client to see if the results are different?

Ok back ! You were right. SmartFTP just works right ... I can see all folders now ...

In Filezilla (& most FTP clients) you'll need to state your 'default remote directory' to be /public_html/
When you connect, the FTP program will go directly to this folder.
