Default Sign up on forum

Hi, I tried to signup on the forum but just got an email saying my account was disabled.
I did not sign up under my account name as I do not want my clients seeing what I post here.

I have several queries as the sales rep lied to me before signing up (and I saved the transcript)

the sign up process to the forums asks for the server I am on, the list doesn't even include the server I was assigned.

If you don't want my service I will take it else where, so far I have been treated like a second rate citizen.

So far the only good thing has been the speed of uploading. But even that has faults , like limiting the displayed results (sales rep lie)

I am sorry you seem to be having so much trouble. I cannot fathom how the auto-email that you received from the forums has made you feel like a "second rate citizen", but if it had that affect, I do apologize.

Our new policy is to only allow unrestricted access to these forums to current HostGator customers. It is for this reason that certain account information is collected during the signup process. When someone fails to provide this information, or provides false information, we have no choice but to remove the account.

The content of that email you received is as follows:

========
Unfortunately your registration for the HostGator Peer Support Forums cannot be approved at this time. The reason for this is that you did not provide complete or valid account details as required during the registration process.
If you feel that an error has been made, please feel free to re-register, but be sure to complete all of the required fields during the registration process.
Regards,
Justin Vandermark, Manager
HostGator Peer Support Forums
===========

When you register for a forum account here, you are allowed to select any username you want. You can post as "Horatio Hornblower" if you choose. The account name that is asked for in the registration form is your HostGator account name, and as is noted on the form, will only be visible to HostGator staff.

You did not provide your account name, or your domain name, and without those 2 items, you cannot be verified. We do not ask for any personal details, or your account password.

You say that your server is not listed in the signup form selection menu, so can you please tell me which server you are on so it can be added?

Unfortunately, there is really nothing I can do for you unless I know your account details, so I would appreciate it if you would recreate your forum account and provide the info requested. If you would rather not provide these details, then I am afraid you must stick with IM, Email, and Phone support - but be forewarned that they will need to know your account name and domain as well.

The forum email alone didn't make me feel like a second rate citizen, the whole process so far has.

When I spoke to online support I asked lots of questions, responce time was long but hey that happens when they are dealing with 14 other people.
The thing is they gave me false information about your setting/services, sure I can live with them but if I'd known about them would of maybe gone elsewhere

How can one not provide false information on sign up when all fields are required but the proper details aren't listed ?

server is 67.19.156.98
If you guys/gals aren't able to keep up with what you have and don't have what else am I going to have problems with ?

The only reason I signed up on the forum is I read somewhere registered members had extra threads, they don't so no real point of signing up again. I can view updates and annoucements and post in this section if need be. (hope never have to). I've been with my previous host for four years with only ever contacting them once to find out the new paths when updating servers, only reason I am moving is because I've out grown their plans.

As I said before the upload speed etc has impressed me and looking at the server stats on Cpanel they are so low it's as if I'm the only one on there which is awesome.

Mystery Person -

I cannot help you without your account name and/or domain name. You are essentially a huge question mark to me right now. I don't know your name. I don't know your domain. I don't know your account name. You have given me an IP, which only tells me that you are on the Gator8 shared server (which I've now added to the sign-up menu, by the way).

I want to help you. Really, I do! But if you don't provide your account information, there is nothing I can do. Send me an email or send me a Private Message with your info and then I will be able to assist you.

You mentioned before that you have a saved transcript of your conversation with a sales rep who apparently lied to you. Would you please post that transcript so that we can review it? Calling our sales team liars is a very strong accusation - one that we will not take lightly - so if something needs to be done we will need to see exactly what transpired.

And finally, I would like to address this comment of yours:

"How can one not provide false information on sign up when all fields are required but the proper details aren't listed?"

I think you are not being very fair here. Yes, all fields are required, and admittedly one of our servers was mistakenly left off of the list, but you still intentionally gave false information for your account name and domain name, so even if our server list had been complete, your forum account would have been rejected.

Like I orginally said, I do not want my clients seeing my details, even if it is only the package I have. Am sure a lot of other people wont sign up/change their details for this reason as well.

I believe I put 'null' or 'pass' in the fields - techincal isn't false information

It's my loss, don't get hung up on it. Like I said, I can still view annoucments etc and can always email sales or support if needed.

I wont post the transcript on here, for one it's to big.
I'm just putting it down to lack of knowledge on the sales rep side.

Very short version, a couple of the questions were:
Q: Are the FTP results limited on display ?
A: Unlimited

reality: is limited to 2000 results
This is the main one I am peeved about as I have over 2000 items in a folder, I'm on dialup so is to slow to download complete backups daily so I like to just download the latest files and save them on my PC. I'm not in US and my quietest time is your busiest time, hogging the FTP for many hours hopefully wont become a burden on others, one folder is about 55mb at present. But I'll need to d/l the complete package at least every second day. Good for you I suppose as it will suck up my bandwidth.

Q: Am I able to FTP access and error logs?
A: Yes

reality: No, but can be seen through Cpanel
While webalizer etc are good they aren't perfect, nothing bets going through your logs manually, sure it can take hours but I designed a script to sort out everything I need, so am able to pick up bots, havesters and downloaders which I then block

Like I said before, I can live with it, although not an ideal choice.
I don't need Cpanel or any control panel, all I really need is FTP and PHPmyadmin to update, backup and set up.

I don't see the big deal here as Justin said that you can sign up with whatever name you want. Your details with Hostgator will only be visible to their staff and noted as a reseller under your chosen name. As such, having your details will make it easier for them to sort out any issues for you when you post a query on this board.

Regarding your error logs
Quote:
reality: No, but can be seen through Cpanel
true, but raw error logs can also be downloaded from cPanel and analyzed with the aid of a software program.

My suggestion as a reseller.....contacting support and opening a ticket is by far the best method of support for tech issues. These guys know what they are doing.

Thing is I'm not on a reseller package at the moment, on shared. I'm not a reseller, just usually use a reseller account as I have lots of sites.

I plan to leave my nameservers to what host gator has supplied, hopefully they might even get some business out of it by me advertising the company I'm with.
I know this kind of sounds weird but I don't mind clients knowing where, just not what.

Like I said in the second post, the only reason I signed up on the forum is I read somewhere registered members had extra threads, they don't so no biggy.
No offense to the mods here but the forum is only for general help anyways, all big stuff is handled by support tickets, emails or phone calls.
What I've mentioned here about the sales rep telling thibs isn't worth a support ticket, email or phone call, as I said I can live with it. I'm stuck with what I have got so unless I change hosts doubt much can be done.

Your right prhost, support tickets are the way to go, fingers crossed will never need them.
