I was thinking, it be a nice idea if HG could offer shared servers that have a smaller number of clients on them which would allow them to use more CPU and have a higher number of SQL connections.
Everything else would be the same as a normal shared server but with fewer clients. For pricing, maybe add 10 or 20 more dollers to the current price. This would be something I would be very interested in as it would allow my site to grow more without having a dedicated box. |

They had that before
It was called a semi-dedicated and only had about 4 accounts per server for $75/m (same price as an unmanaged server) ...But then they stopped doing them |

Ah..
So how many clients are allowed on a current shared server now? Maybe they can do them again but instead of 4 users, make it 8. |

8 users that would be high use would cause the same problems as you would see with the current setup on shared servers.

So how many users are on a current shared server?
If there is low demand, then why not keep a few servers just for that, demand is still demand in the end, even if it is small, they still making money of the server. |

The most i have seen on a shared server with hg was about 600

Bloody hell, that is alot.
In that case, why not half it then, 300 clients can use more resources each then if there was 600 clients. |

If you think thats alot then look at some of the reseller servers. ive seen reseller servers with over 2000 accounts

Isn't that domains Sam? Users/accounts versus domains is quite a difference when HG allows unlimited domains.

And as Brent (HG's CEO) states in the blog post at:

Ah well then, if we both understand this right then Host Gator really does care for all their client's and is the best hosting company.

They do.Also, 8 clients on one server instead of 4... or 300 instead of 600 can make no difference, it just depends on the clients and their sites. One out of control script can do the same thing to a server with 4 people as it could to a server with 300... |

i had a script run amok on my dedicated with about 30 accts (my own account was at fault) and it brought the entire server down in seconds. if a host chronically overloads servers, then you'll have issues, but if they don't (as hg doesn't seem to do), then it's about what the accounts are doing.

i had a drupal idevelopment install where the data had gotten corrupted and, best i could narrow it down, the aggregator module run totally amok. this isn't standard drupal behavior, however, so it's not like it's a script you need to avoid. but on my dev. install, i hammer the holy heck out of it figuring out config stuff.
