Hello, I am considering your hosting service and notice in your knowledge base that you allow adult content sites.
My questions: Are the adult sites put on separate servers from all the other non-adult sites? And, would I be able to request my hosting to be put specifically on a server NOT containing such "porn" sites? My questions stem from information I've read concerning sites getting mistakenly blocked just by virtue of being on the same server as adult site and then tagged as such by search engines and such. Something to do with IP addresses/blocking and more technical mumbo jumbo of which I'm unfamiliar. And I have no idea if having my own dedicated IP mattered or not...do I get a dedicated IP with your plans and does that eliminate this problem? Thanks, BWard |

Hi,
the adult sites are not put on seperate servers. A dedicated IP address would eliminate the problem of having your site's IP blocked. Stef. |

Thanks, Stef.
So if I host with Gator, I may or may not be on the same server as adult sites but I will have a dedicated IP on that server for my site so the problem isnt an issue, is that correct? BWard |

I'm not Stef, but you would have to purchase a dedicated ip to have a different ip address.

What is the charge for a dedicated IP on a shared hosting plan and can this be done (say on the Baby or Swamp Plan)?
I only see info on upgrading to a dedicated IP on a "Reseller" account, at a price of $2.00/mo. Also, if this is possible, what are the chances (however remote) of receiving an IP that was once/ever used for one of these adult sites. I know some of these IP ban list can float around for some time. But, I'm unsure how these things work, and if IPs are recycled this way or not once a client's service terminates or begins. I'm no mathematician so if its some sort of numbers improbability thing, just let me know. BWard |

Hi,
It's possible to have a dedicated IP on a shared hosting account. Please mail sales@hostgator.com for pricing and more info on reuse of IP's. Thanks, Stef. |
