Would be nice if HostGator could organize a CDN arrangement with one of the bigger suppliers, then "sublet" portions of the space to us.
The base cost for CDN can be a bit out of reach for smaller businesses and a bit overkill in terms of volume paid for vs that which is actually needed. In the same fashion as we get XXgb of bandwidth on our server, it would be nice to be able to get XXgb bandwidth on the CDN. The ability to speed up the serving of webpages, by using a CDN, would be a big benefit, especially for companies like mine where we draw customers worldwide. |

mrcycling, could I suggest that if you use an abbreviation, you spell it out the first time? Many readers may have no idea what a "CDN" is.

Are you suggesting that it's not the Canadian Dollar?

As a canadian with two accounts on Hostgator, and one being a reseller, it would be great idea, or at least some sort of Canadian IP system, as I have lost a few clients because I can't offer Canadian IP, in fact I stuck with a sub-par local canadian hosting company, so I can do some web business and look fully canadian, there is a few companies here in Canada, that automatically throw you out emails, etc. wise, because of my US based IP. -- So again it would be nice to have a Canadian system being run by the wonderful Hostgator staff.

![]() So, what will this alleged Canadian be providing us? I'm American, so I could definitely use some free services c/o The Queen's technically democratically governed coffers. ![]() I suppose that what mrintech actually means to request is, effectively, a HG owned and operated variety of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Simple Storage Services (S3). |

That's about as good as you can expect to get.

Last I checked, so was Canada.
More accurate (and tactful) to say "in the U.S." P.S.: you need a better acronym reference: CDN - Definition by AcronymFinder, courtesy of that handy Firefox addon that searches highlighted terms.

It was just funny when that particular reference gave me exactly what I needed for a joke. ^_^
Also, Canada = American = lulz.

Hostgator sent me to CloudFlare. They are a free Content Delivery Network. (They have a flat rate paid option as well at just $20./month). They offer options such as:
Security at users choice of levels. They offer to inform a visitor if there is a virus on their PC and send them help links, on a customized notice. Visitor stats Attempted attack stats They implement Google Analytics (option) And more... The help response is within 24 hours and they are dedicated to solving any problems and answering questions. Their method, is to point your name servers to them. They serve all content... Nothing to upload. The only con is that YSlow doesn't recognize them as a CDN, but they are working on that. Give them a try. You won't find an easier CDN to implement. KellyAnne4Peace |

Hi KellyAnne,
Thanks for the CloudFlare mention! Just some quick clarification: Their method, is to point your name servers to them. They serve all content... Nothing to upload. HostGator customers that activate via the cPanel integration do not need to switch name servers at all. The only drawback with the integration is that the cpanel integration only works with CNAMES. If you need A record support that you want CDN/protection services from, then you would want to switch name servers. |

What about Amazon's CloudFront?
I know I don't have a lot of traffic on my sites, but my cost is usually under $1 a month. Seems pretty cheap to me, at least for us small guys. M |

I will also recommend Amazon's CloudFront. Easy to setup and pretty cheap. for new customers they are offering 5 GB free storage + some bandwidth for 1 year. I am loving it.

Since I started the thread, thought I would jump back in ... we ended up using Rackspace's cloudfiles system and have had no complaints. They recently switched to using Akamai as their cdn provider and they (Akamai) have been doing content delivery since god's dog was a puppy. So everything is fast and reliable and cheap (some months we don't even reach their $1 minimum billing amount).
But it is still a good thing for HostGator to consider offering. By moving our images to the cdn, we have decreased the calls to our HG server some 70% per page served. |

I don't think that's cheaper than CloudFlare's free option. And your really don't need to make any drastic changes to use CloudFlare with HostGator (can turn on/off in the HostGator cpanel). |

WHat i know is that CDN is content delivery network, which means that this CDN would help you in the distribution of content in every network. This would help in the business, and attract more costumers. With CDN it would be faster for the sub. But it should be cheaper and slash down prices
