I know many people have some issues here. I have not posted since I got started in September, 2004. What I would like to point out is that often some issues with HostGator can be avoided by using a dash of common sense and taking a moment to think.
Some of my initial problems were partly my fault. I misunderstood what I needed to do and it was not explained to me as clearly as it could have been. But we did manage to eventually work it out. I came here from gisol.com and I just checked to see if they still exist and to my amazement they do. That was the WORST experience I have ever had with a Web host. In the end I was down MORE than I was up! Regarding HostGator, I now have my main domain and 11 sub domains and myriad email accounts. My sites have never been down that I am aware of - and, yes I check them daily. Three are for my son and trust me, when we were with gisol, I never heard the end of it from him. Naturally, if the sites are up, so is the email. Now, this is not to say I have never had a problem. I am, in fact, experiencing a problem with a sub domain I loaded today. But you know what? It will be taken care of. Computers have us spoiled. They have contributed to this “instant gratification” mind set many of us have. Relax. Take a deep breath. At least with HostGator, you can be sure your email will be answered quickly - the same day - not the following week. If you call on the phone you will speak to a live person. I NEVER spoke to anyone at gisol. Not ever! I still think it is just a big machine! Anyway, I want to note the good experience I have had with HostGator and ironically, it took a problem for me to remember to say “Thanks.” Chris in Portland, Oregon USA |
